UK Young Athletes League - Sun, 18th May 2008 - Tonbridge

The WSEH National Young Athletes Team continued their on their path towards the Natonal Finals in Manchester by spiking the guns of previous round winners Tonbridge AC in their match at Tonbridge on Sunday.

Match Result: 1. WSEH AC 484pt 2. Tonbridge AC 431pts, 3. Shaftesbury Barnet AC 391pts, 4. Woodford Green AC 342pts

The WSEH Boys team was hit by 20 team changes on the day and all credit is due to Team Manager Lynda Bussley and the remaining team members who managed to so effectively plug the gaps.

  • Under 17 Men
    The Under 17 track events opened with the usual win from Ashley Fry in the 400m Hurdles in 57.7 secs. Deji Tobias was never headed in the 200m winning in 22.6 secs with Tom Evans 2nd in 23.2 secs. There were maximum points in the 800m from Elliot Woolmer (2:01.5 PB) and Connor Vine (2:03.6). Kyle Hodge smashed through the 15sec barrier in the 100m Hurdles to take 2nd with 14.8 secs, with Ashley Fry winning the B string in 14.9 secs. Adam Medcraft held on to win the 400m in a PB of 50.3 secs. Deji Tobias completed the sprint double with his 100m victory in 11.1 secs with Ainsley Campbell ensuring maximum points with his win in the B string with 11.4 secs. More maximum points accrued in the 1500m via Rickie Letch with a PB of 4:11.1 and Nick Lingley’s 4:23.1. The 1500m steeplechase featured a sprint finish from Nathan Ditton that swept him to a win on the line in a PB of 4:54.6 with Luke Porter 3rd in 5:42.1.
    To match the track opening win, Mark White duly obliged in the Hammer with 36.09m, with Ryan Barrett deputising effectively to win the B string with 22:36m. David Walker set a new PB in the Pole Vault with 2.10m. David Harvey won his favoured event the Long Jump with 6.02m and then covered the Triple Jump, leaping to a PB of 12.02m. He was partnered by Ethan Welch in both events who took 2nd places in the B strings with 5.19m and 10.71m respectively. Best in the Javelin event was Blake Crowe who was 2nd with 49.53m.

    Under 15 Boys
    Points were harder to come by in the Under 15 Age group. Best of the sprinters was Sean Burke who was 2nd in the 200m in a PB of 23.5 secs. The 800m yielded good points with Gari Brown getting close to the 2m barrier with his PB of 2:00.6, with Jay Fieldmartin 2nd in the B string in 2:19.4. There were maximum points in the 80m hurdles where Sam Maguire knocked nearly half a second off his PB to edge closer to the club record with his time of 11.4 secs. Cameron MacRoberts completed the double in winning the B string with 12.9 secs. The 1500m saw both WSEH runners prove too much for the opposition with James Bennington winning the A string with 4:29.1 and James Tidd the B with 4:30.1. There was a massive new PB from Teo Kubeina, now mastering the technique in the Hammer resulting in 40.75m. On a high, he went on to record further bests in the Shot B with 9.35m and the Discus B with 32.64m. He was partnered by Alex Matthew in both events, his best result coming in the Discus A with 35.10m for 2nd. There was a 2nd place for WSEH’s lone Pole Vaulter Daniel Ditton with 1.70m. Multi eventer and newcomer Alex Peden showed what an asset he will prove by taking 2nd places in the Long Jump with 5.51m and High Jump with 1.55m and the B Javelin with 22.56m. Seamus Burke partnered him with a win in the B Long Jump with 5.11m and Mitchell Turner made his High Jump debut with a 2nd in the B with 1.25m.

    Under 13 Boys
    The club are still struggling to find a settled squad in the Under 13 Age Group and this was reflected in the results. The most successful events proved to be the middle distance races. Henry Suggitt was 2nd in 800m in 2:31.8 with Daniel Dry winning the B in 2:37.2. There were two second places in the 1500m from Jack Rowe in 5:02.3 and Greg Baynham in 5:19.7.

    Best of the Relay events proved to be the Under 17 4x100m where Tobias, Evans, Campbell and Medcraft sailed to a win in 44.4 secs and in the Under 15 where Burke, Maguire, MacRoberts and Matthew did likewise in 48.7 secs

  • Under 13 Girls
    The U13's continue to improve with experience as they posted personal bests in all of their events bar two. The impressive Olivia Ceasar won again in the 150m and posted a win in the 75m in 10.4 sec. Ruth Bourne, who has already set two club records this season, ran from the front and won the 1200m in another club record of 3:54.9. Gabriella Zivanovic, another newcomer to the club, set an impressive PB of 8.22 Meters in the girl's Shot Putt in securing her first victory of the season. Anastasia Inverary set a PB in winning the Long Jump. The quartet of Maddison Paris-Matic, Hannah James, Josslyn Stotter and Ceasar teamed up to dominate the girls 4 x 100m relay. More strong performances by Abbie Schmid in the girls 1200m, Hannah James in the Long Jump, Alejandra Gomez in the Shot Putt, Josslyn Stotter in the 75m, Eleanor Boatman in the 70m Hurdles, Paris-Matic in the girls 150m and Zoe Toudup in the girls 70m Hurdles helped round out the U13's contribution to the team effort.

    Under 17 Women
    In comparison to the strong standards the girls U17 team got off to a slower start but finished incredibly strong as they won almost all of the last 25 field and track events. Laura James took two more wins in the Hammer and the Discus. Faye Williams won a very tight 80m Hurdle race while Chloe Mays continued to delivery wins for the team in the 200m and the 100m sprints. Leah Barrow held off a strong charge by team mate Laura Burke to go 1 and 2 in the girls 300m. Jenny Yoxall continues to deliver strong points for the team with another win in the Javelin. Hannah Barefield continues to dominate in the girls 3000m as she took her second victory of the season for the club. PB's by Lois Bond in the 3000m, Letisha Richardson in the girls Shot Putt and Chanel Taite in the girls 100m showed the depth of the WSEH U17 team. In perhaps the most unexpected and most fun race of the day the girls U17 quartet of Chanel Taite, Lois Bond, who had just run a PB in the 3000m, Emily Barrett and Laura Burke set a club and a UKA Young Athletes League record by running 2:51.2 in the 4x300m and winning by more than 75m.

    Under 15 Girls
    Ellie Norris has established herself as one of the star performers of the girls U15 team as she took two more victories in Tonbridge. Karimah Muhammad is looking stronger as she comes off injury to post a good victory in the girls 100m. Sarah Taplin took another victory in the girls Javelin as the girls throwing team continued their dominance in the league this season. PB's by Emma Croft, Lola Ogunsanya, Miriam Mohammadi, Harriet Daniels and Shalisha Patrick showed how this squad is improving with each match. A special note for Naomi Barbour who set her fourth PB in a row in the girls 800m.
