A Happy New Year to all our distance runners and may the successes achieved in 2009 continue throughout 2010 – particularly in the major races ahead.

The Road/Cross Country season so far has been possibly the best ever for WSEH with successes across the board throughout the age groups.
Without doubt the top performance came from Hayley Yelling. Making her comeback after a short retirement she won the UK Challenge Race in Liverpool to gain selection for the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin. Even Hayley was surprised with her new found form and she ran away with the European title in emphatic style, with front running tactics, leading the GB to silver medals in the team race. Benedict Whitby was another WSEH athlete to return from Dublin with a silver team award in the Mens event.
The only disappointment was the cancellation of the Xmas Fun through lack of competitors – only 8 runners - thus ending 30 years of club tradition.

WSEH are well placed for both individual and team medals in the Chiltern League series but these need to be consolidated by maximum turn outs in the remaining races. We certainly are also medal contenders in the South of England Championships and possibly even the National Cross Country Championships, but only if we field our strongest possible teams.

Sat/Sun Jan 9th/10th – County Championships at various venues. Individual entry.

Sat Jan 16th – Chiltern CC League at Shuttleworth Park, Old Warden, Biggleswade Beds. SG18 9EA Race times: 12.30 U11G, 12.45 U11B, 1.00 U13G, 1.15 U13B, 1.30 U15G, 1.45 U15B, 2.00 U20/U17W, 2.15 U17M, 2.30 SW, 3.00 SM. Please arrive at least 30 mins before your race. Directions: Leave the A1 at the B658/A6001 junction. Follow the B658(Hill Lane) and turn left at the first roundabout (nr Upper Caldicote). After a few hundred yards turn right into Shuttleworth Park ( just beyond Kingshill Cottages – post code SG18 9DT)

Sat Jan 30th – South of England Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields – Hampstead. Race times – 11.00 U15B, 11.20 U13G, 11.35 U13B, 11.50 U15G, 12.10 U17M, 12.40 U20W, 1.05 U17W, 1.30 U20M, 2.05 SW, 2.50 SM
Please ensure you arrive at the venue at least 1 hour before your event.

Sat Feb 13th – Chiltern CC League at Wing Beds - full details to be confirmed. The course/changing is usually at the school in the centre of the village of Wing. Race times generally as usual (see above) but with the Senior Mens Race held at 2.15 and the U17M at 3.00. Arrive at least 30 mins before your race. Directions – M25 /A41 Junction 20 – follow A41 through Berkhampstead , Tring, to Aston Clinton on the outskirts of Aylesbury. Take the A418 junction to Wing – watch for the signs to the venue in Wing.

Sat Feb 27th – National Cross Country Champs at Roundhay Park, Leeds. Race times:
11.00 U15B, 11.20 U20W, 11.45 U17W, 12.10 U13G, 12.25 U17M, 12.55 U15G, 1.15 U20M, 2.00 U13B, 2.15 SW, 3.00 SM. If you are travelling direct please arrive at least 1 hour before your event. For those who have booked places a coach will leave TVAC on Friday 26th Feb at 2.00pm.
