The young athletes of Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club travelled to Guildford for the second Alder Valley Girls League match of the season. With many athletes competing in the English Schools Finals and others earning their Duke of Edinburgh awards, it fell to the remaining members of the Club to earn the deserved win over local rivals Reading, on what was a very hot day. This illustrating once again the depth of talent contained within WSEH AC.

U13 Girls
Competing in the High Jump, Hope White (1m30) and Chantal Banton (1m20 PB) opened the day for this age group. The 75m sprints followed, with Isabelle Charters gaining a PB with 10.6s along with Grace Seymour scoring 11.3s in her race. The Discus provided PB’s for Ellie Jackson and Hope White scoring 16m94 and 16m28 respectively. The 600m’s, saw Tilly Compton-Stewart (1m48.1) and Alex Barbour (1m49.8) both coming home second in their respective races. Isabelle Charters (6m59) also featured in the Shot alongside new member Kendall MacDonald (6m50), who scored a first in her string. The 70m Hurdles came next, with both athletes scoring PB’s. Aleksia Zivanovic with 13.0s and Phoebe Jones with her well earned 12.6s. Aleksia then moved swiftly over to the Javelin to score another PB with 14m12. New member Amber Godwin, intending to compete in the non-scoring Javelin, threw for a scoring place with 14m34 PB. The second set of sprints, the 150m’s saw Catherine Fairhurst (22.5s) and Tilly Compton-Stewart (21.6s PB). This was then followed with the 1000m races with Kathryn Ditton and Jamie Marshall both scoring new PB’s with 3m25.6 and 3m43.8 respectively. Rounding off the field events with the Long Jump, Isabelle Charters and Ellie Jackson once more competing, each achieving PB’s, with Charters (4m53) and Jackson (4m25). The relay finished the day for this age group, however a drop on the last changeover, unfortunately relegated the team of Fairhurst, Seymour, Jackson and White to 7th place.
U15 Girls
Competing in the Hammer, Alice Botting and Hannah James achieved 17m18 and 8m77 respectively. Botting then competed in the Shot, scoring 5m47 along with Nkolka Atuanya who scored 6m83. Competing in the 100m sprints, Holly Reed improved her PB, achieving 13.1s with Catherine Fairhurst equaling her PB in 14.3s. Mikaela Wright achieved a seasons best in the Long Jump with 4m27 alongside Sophie Street, 3m61, a new PB. Ellie Wallis and Emily Reeves also achieved PB’s in the 800m, achieving 2m35.8 for Wright with Reeves running in 2m31.5. Botting was then featured in the Discus(15m25) alongside Hannah Williams(11m83 PB). Williams also featured in the 75m Hurdles (14.4s) with Ellie Rayer (12.4s) improving her PB. Rayer then featured in the 200m with a time of 27.3s. Bryony Wilson covering the other string with 30.3s. New member, Jessica Hunter, made her debut in the High Jump with training partner Mikaela Wright. Both scoring PB’s with 1m25 each. Ellie Rayer was in action again in her signature event, the Javelin, achieving 25m09, with Hannah James scoring a seasons best of 13m15. Next came the 1500m which saw Joanne Fallon(5m34.2) and Eloise Milbourn(5m16.5) score valuable points. The relay team of Williams, Reed, Wilson and Rayer finished the day off coming home in fifth place.
U17 Ladies
With the English Schools and Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme, the U17’s were particularly hit hard, but the athletes rallied to fill all the spots. Ellie Norris started the day with the Hammer achieving 28m10. She also persuaded another thrower, Miriam Mohammadi, to take on the vacant B string, resulting in a 2nd place with 5m93 PB. Rosie Adams, who took on the 300m Hurdles for the first time, achieved a very creditable 51.5s PB. Sarah Hing came in second with 56.4s. Next, the Long Jump saw Victoria Harding achieve 4m37 with Rachel Abebrese covering the other string with 3m79 PB. Norris was in action again in the Discus, scoring a first with 29m10 with first timer, Naomi Barbour, achieving 10m18 PB. Abebrese, in her natural event of 100m achieved a PB of 13.7s with new member, Joanne Beck coming home in 13.5s. High Jump saw Harding reappear with 1m20 with specialist Sophie Jenkins achieving a creditable 1m55. The 800m saw Barbour in her usual surroundings scoring a seasons best of 2m31.5, with Hannah Widgington supporting with 2m32.4. The 80m Hurdles saw Harding once more, achieving 16.0s. Mohammadi achieved a PB in the Triple Jump with a jump of 8m46 with Hing supporting with 8m15. The last sprint saw Abebrese in the 200m running home in 28.6s with Laura Suggitt scoring 28.1s SB. Norris and Mohammadi were is action once again in the Shot scoring 8m38 and 6m15 PB respectively. Alice Wills and Emma Maurer contested the 1500m, both scoring firsts with 5m09.0 and 5m20.0. Suggitt and Beck then contested the 300m, both scoring second places with 44.0s and 44.8s respectively. Javelin finished off the field events which saw Hing throw a PB of 16m09. The relay of Adams, Hing, Beck and Abebrese completed the day in fourth place.
