On perhaps the hottest day of the year thus far, the girls of Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club travelled to Guildford on Sunday to contest the second round of the Alder Valley Girls League. With many athletes not available and illustrating WSEH’s depth, it was the turn of some of the clubs other members to take centre stage. Results saw the local club finishing in a very respectable 3rd place behind local rivals Reading in 2nd and ultimate match winners Guildford & Godalming.
U13 Girls
The young athletes in this age group again, as in the first Alder Valley match, faced a tough battle. They did, however, produce many individual personal bests (PB). Sprinters Josslyn Stotter and Eleanor Boatman both improved in the 75m along with the 150m sprinters of Maddi Paris-Mattic and Zoe Toudup. Middle distance athletes Abbie Schmid and Ellie Wallis gaining bests with Abbie Schmid scoring another PB in the High Jump as did her team mate Gabriella Zivanovic. Hannah Williams and Hannah James also gained new bests in 70m Hurdles and Discus respectively. James then joining the relay team of Paris-Matic, Stotter and Toudup to achieve 2nd place.
U15 Girls
Karimah Muhammad equaled her seasons best of 13.0secs in the 100m sprint coming home in 1st place. Other athletes scoring firsts were Naomi Barbour in the 1500m(5m11.1), a massive 12sec improvement in her PB, and Sarah Taplin, Javelin(29m99). There were personal bests from Shanice Brown in the 200m, the 800m pairing of Emma Croft and Christina Hall, as well as Ella Pepper in 1500m. Returning to competition, Lucy Douglas equaled her PB of 1m40 in the High Jump, sisters, Ana and Maria Gomez, also returning to competition, featured in the relay and Long Jump.
U17 Ladies
A last minute substitution from Abbie Dorling and unquestionable team spirit from Rachel Westbrook helped to score valuable points for the team. Asked to run an 80m Hurdles race when she arrived at the track, Rachel did so. Even though she was starting a High Jump competition, she ran a new PB of 15secs and placed 2nd before returning to the High Jump. Similarly, Abbie, also getting ready for the High Jump, ran the 800m, achieved a PB of 2m37.8, and then went on to achieve a 2nd pace in the High Jump. Claire Hing, returning to the Long Jump after exclusively competing in the Triple Jump in previous competitions, scored a new PB of 4m89. Another impressive performance came from Letisha Richardson in the High Jump. Letisha, normally associated with the Shot, produced a new PB of 1m50. Chloe Wright, competing in three throwing events, achieved two PB’s and a SB. There were further PB’s in this age group which went to round off a very enjoyable day of athletics.
