After previously being placed second and third in the first two rounds of the Alder Valley Girls League, normal service was resumed last Sunday, when the girls of Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club travelled to Guildford and emerged victorious, beating local rivals Reading into second place. With the weather somewhat overcast with occasional rain, this did not dampen the girls enthusiasm for the athletics with many producing personal bests.

U13 Girls
The younger section fared better this match than in previous matches. Morgan Lake produced three firsts in the 70m Hurdles(12.2sec), Long Jump(4m57)and High Jump(1m49). Steph Clitheroe, returning after injury, also recorded a 1st place and personal best (PB) in the 75m sprint(10.4sec) as well as a seasons best (SB) in the Javelin(18m44). Anna Inverary achieved a PB in the Long Jump(4m10), breaking through the 4m barrier for the first time. Other PB’s came from Hannah James, Shot Putt(5m71), both Becca Croft and Hannah Williams, 600m(1m48.1) and (2m7.2) respectively, Eleanor Boatman, 70m Hurdles(13.1sec) and finally, running for the scoring team for the first time, Kirsty Butler, 1000m(3m48.5). The relay team ran what seemed like a slick race, coming in 2nd, only to be disqualified for a lane infringement. A small disappointment to end on, but the Team Manager was encouraged by all the hard work achieved by this age group.

U15 Girls
Good solid performances from the sprinters saw training partners Shalisha Patrick and Karimah Muhammad once again dominate the sprints. Patrick achieved double wins in the 100m(13.0sec) and 200m(27.1secs) with Muhammad achieving a first place and a PB in the 100m(12.7secs). Multi-event specialist, Demi Barrance, had a good solid performance in her debut Alder Valley match. She competed the 75m Hurdles(13.9secs), Long Jump(4m15) and High Jump(1m40), achieving a PB in the Long Jump. Middle distance athlete Emma Croft competed in one of her familiar events, the 800m(2m29.9), achieving a new PB. Emma also took on the not so familiar event of High Jump, achieving another PB with 1m25. Ella Pepper achieved a new PB in the 1500m(5m4.4) with fellow 1500m team mate Alyssa Spitzer achieving a win in the ‘B’ string with 5m33.9. There was also a PB for Sarah Hing in the Shot Putt(5m27), the first outing with this weight, along with a gutsy run in the 200m scoring valuable points for the team. After being asked to take on the Javelin earlier on in the day, Miriam Mohammadi achieved a PB with 10m53 and 16m5 in her more familiar event of the Discus. With the 4x100m relay team scoring a win with 53.5secs, there was renewed enthusiasm after the earlier disappointment.

U17 Ladies
Making her Alder Valley debut in the Pole Vault, Jenny Yoxall achieved a win with 1m60. Jenny also competed the Shot Putt(7m57). In the sprints, Chanel Taite achieved a PB in the 100m(12.5secs), Georgia Connor-Wilder, winning her 200m(26.6secs) gained a PB as well, with Laura Burke, stepping in at the last moment for an injured team mate, equaled her own PB in the 200m(26.8secs). Leah Barrow also scored a win in her 100m(13.1secs), followed this later in the day, with another first, competing the 300m(42.9secs). Another multi-eventer, Rachael Collins, achieved two PB’s in the 80m Hurdles(13.2secs) and Javelin(24m91). Usually competing the horizontal jumps, Claire Hing was also amongst those achieving PB’s, having been asked to compete the High Jump, she did so achieving a new height of 1m15 complementing this with the Triple Jump, achieving 9m48. Sarah Spears and Melissa Hack, competing in the 1500m, both scored wins with 5m14.8 and 5m31.9 respectively, with Spears scoring a PB. Other athletes achieving wins were Hannah Kirby 300m(44.9secs), Lois Bond 800m(2m25.7), Georgia Taylor 800m(2m40.2), Sarah Phelps 80mHurdles(14.6secs), Letisha Richardson Long Jump(4m58) and Chloe Wright gaining a new PB with the Hammer(20m52). Supporting performances from the remaining athletes in this age group further bolstered the points tally.

Another good team performance with gratitude to all those supporting the team on the day.
