National Schools Championships - 11th/12th Jul 2008 - Gateshead

Athletes from WSEH were dominant in the English Schools National Athletics Championships in Gateshead at the weekend with the club supplying no fewer than 4 National Champions.

Deji Tobais blazed an unbeaten trail through heats and semi finals to then win the Inter Boys 100m Final in 10.68 secs. Rikki Letch repeated the feat in the 800m to emerge champion in 1m55.55 secs. Shelayna Oskan eased straight into the Final from the heats of the 400m to record perhaps the surprise win of the day in the Senior Girls 400m in 55.87 secs. In the same age group Sophie Upton leapt to a new pb of 3m70 to win the Pole Vault.

Seamus Burke showed control to safely negotiate the heats, semi finals of the junior Boys 200m, emerging with a bronze medal in the Final with a time of 23.30 secs, after clocking 23.09 secs in his heat. In the Senior Boys Triple Jump Michael Puplampu took the silver medal with his 14m40. Also in this age group, Laurie Clarke repeated silver in the 110m hurdles with 14.35 secs and former champion Cameron Lake took bronze in the High Jump with 1m93. In the Inter Girls 80m Hurdles WSEH provided two of the finalists with Chanel Taite taking silver in 11.31 secs.
