National Junior League - Southern Premier Division - Sun, 25th May 2008 - Uxbridge (H)

WSEH’s over reliance on their Under 17 athletes in the National Junior Under 20 League was all too evident in their Premier Division match at Uxbridge on Sunday. With their top Under 17 athletes competing in the South of England Championships, it was a much weakened team that slumped to 7th spot in the match. Hopes of a place in the Finals competition in Derby in September thus took a serious jolt. The club had to rely heavily on multi eventers Ashley Bryant and Jamie East to fill the gaps in the Mens team.

Joshua Patrick was the best of the WSEH sprinters with his 10.7 secs pb in placing 2nd in the 100m, but a slight muscle pull saw him withdraw from the 200m and Relay..
Alex Tovey clocked a pb in taking 2nd in the 1500m in 3m59.5, and Nathan White did likewise with 2nd in the 3000m in 8m34.7 for 2nd in the A whilst Rhys Glastonbury won the B string, also in a pb of 8m51.7 There were more pb’s for Ashley Bryant in the 110m Hurdles in 14.9secs and Jamie East in the 400m Hurdles in 58.2 secs.
Best of the Jumps proved to be the High Jump where Cameron Lake won with 2m00 with Jamie East 3rd in the B on 1m70. Points were similarly hard to find in the throws, the Javelin proving the best with Blake Crowe setting a new pb with the 800gm implement with 47m74 and Grant Fuller taking 3rd in the B string with 43m69.

The match also marked the welcome return to competition of Graham Cole after surgery, scoring useful points in the Shot(10m91) and Discus(28m79).

There were fewer gaps in the Ladies team and they consequently met with more success. The opening field event, the Hammer, saw the improving Nasya Harvey take 3rd with 38m26, and Laura James winning the B with 31m33.
Vicky Fouhy had an excellent win in the 800m in 2m13.1 secs. She then went on to place 2nd in the 1500m in a pb of 4m41.4, with Louise Lingley winning the B string in another pb of 4m49.0 secs.
WSEH had a winning double in the 100m Hurdles, Rose Reynolds winning the A in 14.5 secs and Emerald Willet the B string in 17.2 secs.
There were personal bests for both WSEH runners in the 3000m, Rachel Stedman taking 4th with 10m49.5 and 16 year old Hannah Barefield winning the B string with 10m54.2.

The WSEH throwers again scored heavily in the Discus, Jo Botwright placing 2nd with 32m76 and Laura James rounding of a successful day with another B string victory with 30m52
