With the Mens A team in action in their British League Premier Division match at Birmingham it was perhaps not surprising that the B team suffered from lack of senior athletes that meant that the team had to be bolstered by youngsters from the Young Athletes team for their Southern League Div 1 match at Tonbridge. The club is suffering from the same malaise that affected the B team last year, in that there are frustratingly a number of Senior athletes that train regularly but fail to put themselves on the line when it comes to competition. It was perhaps not surprising that the local club again finished in last place in the 5 club match and are now at the foot of the table with relegation staring them in the face.

Match Result: Tonbridge AC 139pts, Highgate Harriers 112.5pts, Newbury AC 110pts, Nene Valley Harriers 99pts, WSEH ‘B’72.5 pts

It was not all doom and gloom however and there were some solid performances from the WSEH contingent. It was good to see Andrew Clowes back on the track after a 3 year break and he clocked a useful 2m1.5 in the 800m. 16 year old Ainsley Campbell made an easy transition to Senior competition with a 2nd place in the B 200m in 23.1secs. Laurie Clarke was the lone WSEH outright winner on the track, leaving his rivals in his wake in the 110m Hurdles in 15.3 secs. There was better success in the field events for WSEH. Veteran Alan James won the opening event of the day, the Hammer, with 46m39. Steve Walker made the dash from University to win the Pole Vault with 3m80 and David Cole won the High Jump with 1m85. Busiest man on the field was veteran Jeremy Tigar, who contested three throws and also made a token mark in the Long Jump. His best result came in the Javelin where he was 4th with 44m63 allowing Grant Fuller to win the B string with 44m62.
