The problems that afflicted the A team also had a knock on effect on the WSEH Mens B team for their Southern League Division 1 match at Eton on Saturday. However several youngsters drafted into the team to fill the gaps saw the local club finish in 4th place.
Match Result:
City of Portsmouth AC........141.5 pts
Chelmsford AC....................107 pts
Swindon Harriers................99.5 pts
WSEH ‘B’.............................93 pts
Thames Valley Harriers ‘B’...88 pts
The match opened well enough for the local club with 2nd places in the 400m Hurdles from young Ashley Fry(56.6secs) and coach Danny Hodge(62.4secs) and good placings in the 800m from another youngster Nick Lingley, 3rd in 2m00.6 and a front running victory in the B race from Andy Clowes in 2m02.3. Charlie Coleman continued the trend in the 5000m with 2nd place in 15m40.0 with 19 year old Vince Bangs winning the B string in 17m03.5. There was a PB from 16year old Ainsley Campbell for 3rd in 50.2 secs, and similarly aged Amir Khan equalled his best in the B race in 53.7 secs. Another young athlete to clock a new PB was Stuart Challis who has knocked over a second off his 200m time in the last month, his best now standing at an excellent 22.8 secs.
In the field events WSEH fared best in the Throws. Jeremy Tigar was 2nd in the A Javelin with 48m44, with 16 year old Matt Todd winning the B with 45m45. Tiger teamed up with David Shiel in the Shot to record 2nd places – Shiel with 11m60 and Tigar on 9m59. Points were hard to come by in the Jumps but the Cole brothers shared the High Jump to good effect with David taking 2nd with 1m85 and Graham 3rd in the B with 1m65
Best of the Relays proved to be the 4x100m where the WSEH quartet of Andrew Weekes, Stuart Challis, Ainsley Campbell, and Scott Dorset were 2nd in 45.0 secs.
WSEH’s status in Div 1 for next year now rests on how many Southern teams are relegated from the National League – it could well be that WSEH will yet retain their status despite their lowly position.
