WSE & Hounslow Ladies victorious again!
Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) A.C. ladies continued their winning ways in the 2nd of a 5 match series in Southern Women’s League Premier Division. A decisive win at the Horsham venue, places the team a close 2nd place in the overall league standings.
This impressive achievement bore testament to the strength in depth of the young athletes section of the club, from where the ladies had to field 2 teams over the weekend.
One of the highlights of the match came in the under 17 (U17) hurdles races, where Sophie Purkis & Sarah Phelps made a superb clean sweep of wins, leading the way for more fine achievements.
Not to be outdone, the senior sprint hurdlers Rose Reynolds & Jenny Heckford also did the double in the 100 Hurdles, whilst Caroline Heaney and Steph Brown did a one/two in the 400m Hurldles races.
Another pair of victories were achieved in the 100m sprints, by on form, Caroline Hussey and new signing, Zoe Wells in her first outing for the club. Wells, whose dad was one of the UK’s top Olympians, was also the lead off leg in the victorious 4x100 relay.
The remainder of the senior track events brought a mixed bag of results, which included a double victory in the 1500m by Louisa Lingley & Rachel Stedman, in which Stedman gained a new personal best.
Whilst Leigh James took a massive 20 seconds off her 3000m time to gain a victory, gutsy runs by veteran, Dee Smale and U20, Lou Sams brought lower placings in a strong 800 field.
Long term training partners, Lauren Betts-Bucke and Beth Newton both achieved seasons best in the 200m and featured in a powerful 4x400m relay squad that left the opposition in its wake and achieved a stunning sub 4 minute time.
In the senior Hammer & Discus, Joanne John and Janet Smith completely outclassed their opposition to bring home maximum points for their team.
Elsewhere in the senior throws a slightly under par Jo Wade could only mange 3rd place in the Javelin, but gained a seasons best in the Shot. Partnering her in the Shot was Abbey Jones who, on her first outing with the team since returning to athletics after finishing university, achieved a win and a best performance.
The Pole Vault proved a successful event with Maxine Clarke the overall winner setting a new personal best and veteran, Dorothy McLennan a season’s best. With the rest of the senior jumpers seeming a bit off form, it was left to U17, Claire Hing, to take the glory, by gaining victory in the senior Triple Jump.
In the girls section of the team, bests were in abundance! Here, Cressida Millar led the way with life time bests in both sprint races. Laura Suggitt, her 200m partner, also gained a best.
It was an impressive clean sweep of personal bests (PBs) for Jo-Ling Chew, Rosie Adams, Christina hall and Alyssa Spitzer in the U15 middle distance events.
