WSEH LADIES CLAW BACK CRUCIAL POINTS IN UK LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

The UK Women’s National League team from Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow A.C. (WSEH) had a great day in Manchester on Saturday and their fourth place in the eight team match, has given them a life line to maintain their prestigious Premier Division status.
Fourth place in the match reflects where the team should be, on paper, in the standings of the top 8 teams in the UK that make up the Premier Division.
Although, a change around of positions of other teams to that they achieved in the first match has resulted in WSEH being in 6th place in the overall standings, they have 7 league points to seventh placed Woodford Green’s 5. Woodford must now finish 3 places higher than WSEH in the last match, if they are to overtake WSEH and push down in one of the two relegation slots.

One of the highlights of the day was the return of two of the clubs top sprinters after injury lay-offs. Helen Pryer placed 2nd in the 100m “A string and went on to win the 200m in superb time of 23.52, whilst U20, Chinedu Monye won the “B” 100m in just outside 12 seconds.
In the 400m, the experienced Lesley Owusu gained a season’s best for 2nd “A” whilst Caroline Livingstone ran close to her best, despite having had a lay-off due to injury.
Windy conditions made the middle races tough going, so it was a delighted Shelayna Oskan who achieved a PB of 2.11.68 and a very happy Carolyn Dickie who ran an SB in the 3000m.
The Hurdles races saw the strong pairing of Emily Parker and Caroline Heaney bring home a good points tally from the 400 race, with Jenny Heckford running close to her best in the sprint race, in which Heaney gained a best time.
The field highlights came mainly in the throws, led by Joanne John and Bola Ogun placing in excellent 2nd and 1st place respectively in the “A” and “B” strings. This was followed by the ever improving U20, Joanne Botwright throwing a personal best of 36.92 in the Discus.
With some of the clubs top sprinters and 400 & 800m runners in the team, the relays were bound to be worth watching and so it was. The 4x100 relay squad placed a close 3rd in a seasons best time of 48.01, with perhaps rather over safe changeovers preventing them from the winners or runners-up slot.
Then the 4x400 team stepped on the track, where Emily Parker fought hard to bring the team home in the lead. Shelayna Oskan (U20) held that lead against some tough opposition to hand over to Kelly Reid. It was a tentative first 200m for Reid had earlier pulled out of the 3K due to a niggling calf muscle. But sterling work by team masseur, Anna Barton had worked wonders and at the half way mark Reid powered up to bring the team in several metres in the lead on the change to Lesley Owusu. Never one to rest on her laurels, Owusu powered away, never faltered and brought the squad home over two and a half seconds and some 40 metres ahead of 2nd placed Edinburgh.
