WSEH made a disappointing start to the defence of their title in the Alder Valley Boys League match at Eton on Sunday. The overlap with the football and rugby season saw too many gaps in the team to be able to match a strong squad from Reading AC.
The match started well enough with wins in the opening track event, the 400m Hurdles for Cameron MacRoberts in a pb of 68.7 and for Mark White in the Hammer with 44m04. MacRoberts completed the double by also winning the 100m Hurdles in 16.1 secs. The U17 1500m saw 5 WSEH athletes in contention with Elliot Woolmer proving the strongest with 4m16.9, followed by Connor Vine(4m19.4), Zak Curran (4m20.9), Keegan Lymn(4m21.9) and James Tidd(4m23.4).In the U17 field events there were 2nd places for a returning Chis Andreou with 9m77 and for David Walker in the Pole Vault with 2m40. There was also a 3rd place for Lee boson in the Javelin with a pb of 37m92.
Points were had to come by in the Under 15 age group with the best performance on the track coming from Rickie Harvie in the 1500m, with 2nd place in a pb of 4m40.5, with James Porter also taking 2nd in the B string.
There were better results in the Under 13 age group. Will Brennan ran himself into the Young Athletes team for Southampton this weekend with his win in the 800m in 2m29.7 seccs. Best performances in the sprints came in the 200m event from Giles Robinson(28.9secs), Will Brennan(29.1secs), and Rob Patterson(31.7secs).In the 1500m Gus Cockle was 2nd in 4m58.1secs, with George Gathercole on 4m32.2..
Best of the field events proved to be the Discus where Michael Harvey was 3rd in the A string with 15m20 and Tristan Waterson won the B with 13m34. The WSEH sprinters also ruled the day in the final 4x100m relay winning in 58.5 secs.
