The young athletes of Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club travelled to Reading for the season opener of the Alder Valley Girls League. Hoping to continue last season’s fantastic achievements, the management team was optimistic going in to this match, and was not disappointed. WSEH AC were deserved winners, with just under a 30 point lead from home team and local rivals Reading AC.
U13 Girls
The young athletes in this age group acquitted themselves extremely well with many achieving personal bests (PB), one athlete breaking a club record, whilst another equaled her own club record. Outstanding athlete Josslyn Stottor broke the club record in the Javelin with her 23.89m throw. She then gained maximum points in two other events, the Shot Putt (8.16m PB) and the Discus (15.70m). She later joined the victorious relay team to round off a fantastic day. Another talented athlete, Morgan Lake, equaled her High Jump club record with 1.50m. Morgan also competed in the 70m Hurdles (12.5s) as well as the Long Jump (4.94m). She then ran the anchor leg in the relay. Other notable performances came from Sasha Hollenbeck, High Jump (1.20m) and 600m (2:01.2), both PB’s. Zoe Toudup, another athlete who featured in three events, ran 75m (10.7) PB, 70m Hurdles (13.1) and then the Discus (14.77m). All middle distance runners achieved PB’s. Tilly Compton-Stewart (600m 2:00.1), Eloise Milbourne (1000m 3:28.3) and a late substitution, due to illness, Kathryn Ditton (1000m 3:31.0). A great start for this age group.
U15 Girls
The Hammer Throw has been introduced to this age group for the first time this season. The club was able to field two enthusiastic athletes to fill this new event. Gabriela Zivanovic and Hannah James stepped up to the mark and both returned 2nd placings gaining valuable points for the team. Continuing the throwing theme, Gabriela then competed in the Shot Putt (7.85m) and the Discus (23.12m PB). Joanne Fallon, having just completed a non-scoring 800m, was asked to fill-in on the 200m. She was tied, but agreed, and achieved a PB in 29.3s. More PB’s were to come with the middle distance events. Emma Croft 800m (2:28.3), Ellie Wallis 1000m (5:19.9) and Rosie Adams 1000m (5:22.7). There were also PB’s for Imogen Eddings, Javelin (16.54m) and Ana Inverary 75m Hurdles (13.8s). The relay team came home a creditable 2nd in 55.8s.
U17 Ladies
Throws specialist Ellie Norris, competing in her signature event of Discus, achieved 27.04m PB, and then in her first Hammer competition threw 19.88m PB. She finished off with Shot Putt (7.54m). Kathryn Wallace, another talented thrower, joined Ellie in the Hammer (23.81m PB), and Shot Putt (7.77m PB). In the Pole Vault, Lily Guerin equaled her PB achieving 2.00m. Another athlete to equal her PB was Letisha Richardson in the High Jump (1.50m). Two new winter signings were in action in this match. Aimee Partridge competing in the 300m Hurdles (50.1s PB) and Georgia Lamothe, in the 300m (40.3 PB). The sprinters were out in force with 100m’s Chloe Mays (12.9s) and Karimah Muhammad (13.1) and in the 200m’s, Leah Barrow (26.8s) and Georgia Taylor (27.9s). Chloe, also featured in an impressive 300m (41.4s PB). Middle distance saw in the 800m’s, Lois Bond (2:23.6 PB) and Hannah Widgington (2:36.5 PB), and in the 1500m’s, Bex Myers dominated with 4:47.8 PB and Naomi Barbour (5:15.1). Sprint Hurdles double act of Charlotte Banks (13.0s) and Sarah Phelps (13.1) dominated as did Pascale Waterson (9.91m) and Claire Hing (9.12m) in the Triple Jump. Ana and Maria Gomez scored well in the Long Jump with 3.99m and 4.32m respectively. The relay team ran an impressive race to finish first, only to be disqualified due to a changeover infringement.
There were further notable performances from the other athletes not mentioned above to round off a very enjoyable day of athletics.
