British Athletics League National One - Sat, 6th Jun 2009 - Abingdon

In the first of four British League matches from which the Senior Men are attempting to return to the Premiership after relegation last season, the team produced a performance of the highest standard which was that good that the weather improved and the rain stopped, when at Abingdon they finished 2nd to the highly funded Belgrave Harriers.
The return to the team after a long injury layoff saw Rion Pierre complete a sprint double with both Nigel Levine and Steve Johnson winning the 400m A/B races. League debutants, Rory Graham-Watson (800m), Tom Evans (100m), Lawrence Clarke and Ben Reynolds (110m Hurdles) all performed exceptionally well and showed what an exciting future the Club has as all are Under 20 years of age.
In the field, the match started with a well deserved victory in the Long Jump from Alan Kennedy who went on to partner Julian Golley to ensure a double victory in the Triple Jump. Mikki Finn proved his long awaited return from injury was worth waiting for when he set a PB in the hammer. Two more League debutants, again both Under 20, Sam Bailey (High Jump) and Steve Watson (Discus) won their events.
Team Manager, Bryan Goodman, commented that with so many of our brilliant Under 20 athletes forcing themselves into the Senior team on merit the future now appears bright – All that is needed is some kind sponsor to step in and support the Team in its quest to compete against the big clubs on a level playing field, With the 2012 Olympics still 3 years away, I am convinced that Windsor has several athletes who will blossom and make a serious claim for selection IF that elusive sponsor can be found – The athletes deserve it and I will leave no stone unturned to try and achieve it.
