There were successes for WSEH athletes in the final match of the Chiltern Cross Country League at Luton on Saturday resulting in team and individual medals for performances across the 5 match series.
The only individual win on the day at Luton came in the first race where the youngest of the Ditton family, Kathryn, won the Under 11 Girls event in style.
Senior Mens Race:
WSEH suffered from their usual malaise this winter of finding enough athletes to complete a team, with only 4 athletes toeing the start line. Under 20 athlete Luke Turton had his best run to date to place 34th, with another U20 athlete Cameron Smart also well up in 48th place. Veterans Mike Hill in 100th place, and Wal Wessely in 110th were the only other WSEH finishers.

Veteran Men – 1st Harrow AC, 12th WSEH
Senior Womens Race:
There was better representation from the WSEH Senior Ladies and first home for the local club was the improving Charlotte Firth in 8th place. Supervet Paula Fudge was next to appear in 12th place, followed by Yolanda Edwards in 20th and Leigh James 23rd to complete the team. Other WSEH finishers were 32nd M.Alberic, 36th Lucy Roe, 54th Ruth Lingley, 58th Pauline Siddons

Under 17 Mens Race:
Just two WSEH athletes faced the starter, the first to cross the line was Nick Lingley in 7th place with Nathan Ditton in 11th. WSEH had done enough in previous matches however to secure team bronze.

Under 20/17 Ladies Race:
This category always provided the best opportunity for team honours, and so it proved to be with WSEH taking the Overall Team golds. Rachel Stedman led the team home in 3rd place, with Bex Myers on her heels in 4th, Louisa Lingley in 7th and Faith Louise Smith in 15th completing the team. Other WSEH finishers were 16th Hannah Barefield, 18th Sarah Spears, 21st Sue Ditton.

Under 15 Boys Race:
WSEH were also medal contenders in this age group. Keegan Lymn led the WSEH home with 2nd place, with James Bennington 4th, Ben Bradley in 8th and Gari Brown completing the team scoring in 17th spot. Other WSEH finishers were: 19th D.Coe, 33rd Derreice Green, 39th James Porter.

Under 15 Girls Race:
This season has seen a good turn out from the Under 15 Girls and their ‘loyalty’ just missed out in the team medal stakes. Best on the day was Maryse Haynes with her 6th place. There was a gap before Naomi Barbour appeared in 16th place but she was closely followed by Emma Croft in 17th and Rosie Adams in 21st to complete the team. Other WSEH finishers were: 28th Verity Kyley, 32nd Alyssa Spitzer, 33rd Emily Wilkinson, 34th Liadh Troy, 35th Lauren Mills, 36th Laura Higton.

Under 13 Boys Race:
The good WSEH squad in this age group have been in the medal hunt all season – and so it proved to be in the final race of the series with silver team medals resulting but missing out on gold by one solitary point.
Jack Rowe was in the vanguard with his 5th place. The improving Will Brennan was 12th, George Gathercole 15th and Greg Baynham completed the team on the day in 19th spot. Other WSEH finishers were: 21st Gus Cockle, 23rd T.Coe, 34th Giles Robinson.

Under 13 Girls Race:
There were plenty of WSEH athletes evident in this race, but once again team medals just eluded them. Beccy Croft led the charge in 9th place, with Eloise Milbourne in touch in 10th place. Chloe Allen in 17th and Ellie Wallis in 20th completed the team. Other WSEH finishers were; 23rd Jo Fallon, 36th Eleanor Boatman, 44th Olivia Saligoi.

Under 11 Boys Race:
Just two WSEH athletes contested this race with Ross Adams in 15th place and Tom Spellman 19th.
Overall Series Team Result: 1st Chiltern Harriers, 6th WSEH
Under 11 Girls Race:
The impressive Kathryn Ditton led the WSEH team home with her excellent 1st place. Eugenie Cockle was 8th, Jamie Marshall 11th and Alex Barbour 13th completed the team to secure the team silver awards. Other WSEH finishers were: 22nd Evie Higton, 55th Hope Smith
