WSEH AC made a promising start to their winter cross country season at Oxford on Saturday in the opening match of the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country League series, with some good performances across the board. The match saw Divisions 1 and 2 combined, with WSEH finishing in 4th place of the 14 clubs in the Div 1 section. The best result for the local club came in the Under 15 Boys Race where Ricky Harvie was a runaway winner with Cameron Todd in 3rd place, leading the WSEH squad to victory in the team event.
Senior Mens Race
WSEH were disadvantaged by only fielding 8 runners when 10 were required to make a scoring team. Nonetheless there were good runs from those WSEH athletes present. Steve Kimber led the team home with his 7th place in 31m33, followed by Ian May in 19th place in 32m31. There was a slight gap before a trio of local athletes appeared, Nick Lingley in 47th place, Cameron Smart in 49th and Luke Turton in 53rd. There was a further wait for the remaining WSEH athletes, Jack Philp in 91st spot, Bob Fuller(vet) in 92nd and Dave Huck(94th).
Team Race winners were Milton Keynes AC with WSEH in 9th place.
Under 20 Mens Race ( held with the Senior Race)
WSEH fared much better in this age group with their young squad and were placed 2nd – again behind Milton Keynes AC
Under 17 Mens Race
Good packing saw WSEH take another 2nd place in this race. Nathan Ditton proved the strongest on the day with 7th place, with Elliott Woolmer on his heels in 8th, and Alex Goodall in 9th, with Rikki Letch closing the team in 11th place.
Other WSEH Finishers were: James Tidd 16th, James Bennington 18th, Zac Curran 25th, Gari Brown 34th, Shane Streeter 25th and Dan Coe 42nd.
Bedford & County AC were the team race winners.
Under 15 Boys Race
WSEH have a strong squad in this age group that bodes well for the championship events ahead. Ricky Harvie was in a class of his own finishing some 15 secs clear of his chasers. Callum Todd snatched 3rd on the line. It was good to see Kieran Wye back in action after injury and he was 10th. Jack Rowe completed the team in 20th place. Other WSEH finishers were: Ben Bradley 21st, Jake Keefe 36th, Henry Suggitt 37th, James Porter 41st.

Under 13 Boys
Once again WSEH have some good athletes in this age group. Best of the bunch proved to be Gus Cockle who was 3rd. Sprinter Giles Robinson showed that he has a stamina base as well, finishing in 13th place. Tom Coe (19th) and George Gathercole(21st) made up the team.

Newcomer Sam Percy was the star in this age group with his 7th place, leading home Joe Brown (23rd), Carl Slater(32nd) and Peter Coe (41st)

Senior Ladies Race
WSEH were again short of athletes in this race, with just 3 toeing the start line. Former international, Marina Stedman (vet) was the best of the trio in 8th place, with Pippa Callingham 37th, and Ruth Lingley(vet) 70th.

U20/U17 Ladies Race
Maryse Haynes was first home for the WSEH squad in 11th place, with Alyssa Spitzer 19th, Hannah Barefield 25th and Verity Kyley 30th

Under 15 Girls Race
WSEH were well represented in this race with Emma Croft proving the best of the squad in 14th place. There was a wait until the rest appeared, with Sophie Street 27th, Jo Fallon 28th, with Abbi Schmid 33rd completing the team. Other WSEH finishers were: Ellie Wallis 35th, Rosie Adams 39th, Liadh Troy 52nd.

Under 13 Girls Race
Becca Croft engaged in a head to head tussle at the front of this race with a Chiltern Harrier runner, before giving ground to finish in 2nd place. Emily Reeves was next home in 13th place, followed by Kathryn Ditton in 17th and F. Johnson closed the team in 23rd place. Other WSEH finishers were: Gemma Burgin 25th, Velvet Barratt 35th, Eloise Milbourne 43rd, Amy Talbot 44th, Greta Spitzer 45th, Jamie Marshall 53rd, Chantal Banton 55th, Aimee Brameld 62nd.

Under 11 Girls Race
It was good to see a healthy WSEH contingent in this race also. First to appear was Alex Barbour in 6th place. She was followed by twin sisters Eve Daniels in 15th, and Holly Daniels in 20th to complete the team Other WSEH finishers were: 37th Olivia Smyth, 41st Emily Tebbitt, 44th Hope Smith.
