Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow AC travelled up the M1 to Luton’s Wigmore Valley, sandwiched between the airport and the motorway, on Saturday to contest the 2nd in the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country League series.
Once again the local club struggled to field a complete team in the Senior Mens Race and it was left to the club’s younger athletes to keep the WSEH colours to the fore.

Senior Mens Race
Ian May led the depleted team home with his best run to date in 5th place. Under 20 athlete Josh Radvan also ran well for his 30th spot. Newcomer John Moss, another U20 athlete, was next home in 43rd place with more U20 athletes in tow, Cameron Smart in 71st place and Jack Philp in 85th spot. Veterans then made up the rest of the WSEH squad, Bob Fuller in 109th place, Dave Huck 124th, Wal Wessely 172nd and Suk Sohal 203rd.

Team winners: Milton Keynes AC, WSEH 12th

The Under 20 athletes were 3rd in their category, behind winners Luton AC.

Senior Ladies Race
WSEH had just the four runners neede to make the team in this race. Best of the quartet was former international Marina Stedman, now a veteran, and she crossed the line in 10th place. There was a good run from Yolanda Edwards in 16th place, with Leigh James in touch in 21st place. Pippa Callingham completed the scoring team in 49th spot.

Under 17 Men
Despite being without several key athletes WSEH still had enough strength in depth to put up a worthwhile challenge in this race. Nathan Ditton was best on the day in 5th place, with the improving Alex Goodall 8th and newcomer Khaled Al Abraidy 10th. There was a slight gap before Zac Curran appeared in 15th place, with Gari Brown completing the team in 24th place. Other WSEH finishers were Nick Cockle 30th, Connor Vine 35th and Dan Coe 38th.

Team winners: Bedford & County AC, WSEH 2nd.

Under 17 Ladies
Best of the squad was Maryse Haynes in 8th place with Naomi Barbour on her heels in 10th. Alyssa Spitzer was next over the line in 13th, with a gap before Hannah Barefield completed the team in 28th place. WSEH’s other finisher was Verity Kyley in 35th place.

Team Winners: Milton Keynes AC, WSEH 3rd.

Under 15 Boys
With several athletes missing WSEH had to rely on just the four needed to make the team in this race. Ricky Harvie once again proved the top WSEH performer with his 2nd place but he was chased hard by Callum Todd in 3rd place. Ben Bradley was next to appear in 8th place but WSEH had to wait for the reliable James Porter to complete the team in 41st spot.

Under 15 Girls
There were six WSEH runners in this race with Emma Croft leading them home in 20th place. Ellie Wallis next appeared in 26th place shortly followed by Natasha Carr in 29th. Rebecca Riches in 33rd completed the team. Other WSEH finishers were: Emily Haberfield 42nd, Abbi Schmid 43rd.

Under 13 Boys
There was a super run from Gus Cockle in 2nd place, his best to date. George Gathercole also showed a resurgence with his 8th place, with Giles Robinson giving chase in 12th spot. There was a wait however until Tom Coe appeared in 24th place to complete the team.

Under 13 Girls
WSEH had a strong representation in this race with 10 athletes facing the starter. Becca Croft was once again the best of the squad with her 3rd place, back in action after an illness. The fast improving Eloise Milbourne was next in 10th place with Kathryn Ditton in 14th. Gemma Burgin, who was amongst the early leaders, completed the team in 18th place. Other WSEH finishers were: Felicity Johnson 19th, Felicity Compton-Stewart 20th, Greta Spitzer 33rd, Alice Turner 34th, Amy Talbot 55th and Chantal Banton 58th

Team winners: Chiltern Harriers, WSEH 2nd.

Under 11 Boys
The three WSEH athletes in this race were having their first taste of club competition and all came through unscathed. George Frise was 31st , Jack Davies 42nd and Hamish Smart 46th.

Under 11 Girls
It was encouraging to see so many youngsters toeing the line for WSEH in this age group. 9 year old Eugenie Cockle led the charge with a superb 3rd place, just ahead of Alex Barbour in 5th. Anna Croft was next to cross the line in 13th with Harriet Daniels completing the team in 14th place. Other WSEH finishers were: Sophie Davies 15th, Eve Daniels 21st, Olivia Smyth 40th and Hope Smith 48th
