WSEH AC were well represented when they hosted the 3rd match in the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country League at Upton Court Park, Slough on Saturday. The competition produced both team and individual successes for the local club.

Senior Mens Race
Under 20 athletes made up most of the WSEH team in this race, all performing well and giving hope for a swift resurgence of the club’s distance running fortunes. Nathan White(U20) led the charge with his excellent 3rd place. Ian May was next home in 11th spot. The improving Rhys Glastonbury(U20) was some 10 places away in 22nd, with Nick Lingley(U20) in 28th. Newcomer Josh Moss(U20) was next home in 35th. Luke Turton(U20) had another good run for 40th and the steadily improving Jack Philp(U20) was 45th. Triathlete Sam Gardner made one of his rare appearances to finish 48th with Cameron Smart(U20) in touch in 50th spot. There was a gap before veteran Bob Fuller crossed the line in 77th place to complete the team scoring.

Senior Ladies Race
WSEH were down to the bare minimum in this race where just 4 local athletes faced the starter. Best of these proved to be former international Marina Stedman, now a vet, and she finished in 9th place. The improving Yolanda Edwards was 17th but there was then a wait for WSEH to close their team via Paula Hing 58th, and Ruth Lingley (vet)59th.

Team result: 1. Milton Keynes 256, 2, Bedford 240, 3. Headington Runners 235. 6. WSEH 141.

Under 17 Mens Race
WSEH have their strongest squad for several years in this age group and they duly proved the point by winning the team race. Best of the 11 strong team was Nathan Ditton in 4th. He was closely followed by the improving Alex Goodall in 6th, Elliott Woolmer in 7th and new find Khalid Al Abraidy in 8th. James Bennington completed the team in 13th spot.

Under 20/17 Ladies Race
Steeplechase specialist Martha Reynolds led the way for WSEH with her 5th place. Maryse Haynes was in close attendance with her 8th place and Bex Myers was also in touch with 12th place. Leah Barrow completed the team scoring with her 20th place.

Under 15 Boys Race
Ricky Harvie was always amongst the vanguard in this race, taking pole position at the finish. Kieron Wye was next to appear in 9thb place, followed in quick succession by Ben Bradley in 16th and the improving jack Watson in 18th. Greg Baynham was the other WSEH finisher in 37th place.

Team result: 1. Bedford 170 2. WSEH 161, 3. Bracknell 142.

Under 15 Girls Race
Emma Croft was the best of the WSEH contingent in this race with her 14th place. Jo Fallon was on her heels in 17th with Sophie Street also in touch in 19th. New girl Rebecca Riches completed the team in 21st spot.

Under 13 Boys Race
Already medal winners at area level, it was not surprising to see the WSEH team in this age group taking the team title. Gus Cockle again proved the best with his 4th place, swiftly followed by George Popplewell in 7th, Tom Coe having his best run to date for 8th, and James Cumins closing the team in 13th
Other WSEH finishers were: 25th Giles Robinson, 63rd Will Roberts.

Under 13 Girls
16 WSEH girls faced the starter in this race, a highly encouraging sign. The super talented Becca Croft blazed the trail at the front – winning by nearly 10 secs. Eloise Milbourn 6th, and Kathryn Ditton 7th gave support and Fiona Johnson completed the team in 17th place.

Under 11 Boys Race
Just 4 WSEH athletes contested this race, with Jack Davies the best of the quartet in 30th place. G.Frise was next in 34th, Hamish Smart was 38th and G.Flowers 51st.

Under 11 Girls Race
Alex Barbour led the way for WSEH in this race, finishing in 6th place. Sophie Davies was next home in 11th, with Juliet Ehinger in 23rd to complete the team
