With doubt hanging over whether the snow would result in cancellation of the 3rd in the Apex Sports Chiltern League Cross Country Series until the very last minute, it was perhaps not surprising that many of the WSEH athletes made other arrangements for the weekend.
Thus it was that WSEH failed to field complete teams in most of the senior age groups.

Senior Men Race
Just 5 WSEH athletes toed the line in the Senior Mens race. Rhys Glastonbury was the first to appear in 22nd place. Cameron Smart was next home in 41st, with a similar gap until Luke Turton entered the fish funnel in 54th. Veterans Bob Fuller(90th) and Dave Huck(105th) made up the rest of the WSEH contingent.

There was a good turn out from WSEH athletes in this age group. Best of the bunch on the day was Elliot Woolmer in 6th place, closely followed by Alex Goodall in 8th, Nathan Ditton in 9th, Khalid Al – Abraidy in 12th. There was a small gap before Zac Curran appeared in 14th, with James Bennington in 20th, James Tidd 24th, and Dan Coe in 31st.

Under 17 Ladies Race
Season long team leader Maryse Haynes, who was the 7th in a very high quality U17 age group, took 8th place. Naomi Barbour, with limited winter training, impressed with a 13th place in the overall competition and an 11th place in the U17 age group. Bex Myers, who is making steady progress in returning from the difficult injuries and illness of 2009, brought the team home in 16th place.

Team Result: 1st Milton Keynes AC 54pts 3rd WSEH AC 29pts

Team Result: 1st Bedford 7 County AC 154pts, 5th WSEH AC 80pts

Under 15 Girls Race
Emma Croft led the WSEH team by taking 12th. Newcomer Alice Wills added valuable points in 19th place and first year U15 Ellie Wallis improved on her positioning of previous matches to take 20th. An improving Rebecca Riches ran strongly to finish 23rd. Also competing on this tough day of racing were Sophie Street (27th), Abbie Schmid (32nd) and Rosie Adams (33rd).

Again WSEH numbers were down in this age group but those present all ran well. Gus Cockle was the best of the WSEH quintet in 7th place, with the improving Tom Coe on his heels in 9th place. Gus Gathercole was not far adrift in 13th with Giles Robinson three places back in 15th. The final WSEH runner was Will Goddard in 45th place.

Under 13 Girls
The U13 girl’s team keep turning out in strong numbers as WSEH resumed its battle with the Chiltern Harriers for league honours. Unfortunately Rebecca Croft was piped at the line to take 2nd place but the tenacious Felicity Johnson keeps pushing up the leader board with a very exciting 8th place finish. Season long stalwarts Kathryn Ditton and Eloise Milbourn finished 13th and 14th respectively to bring the team home in 2nd. Also competing well for the club were Heather Riches (21st), Emily Reeve, who returned to action after injury to finish 22nd, Alice Turner (34th) and Chantal Banton (48th).

Under 11 Girls
The girls U11 team had a small turnout but we thankfully had enough for a scoring team. The team was once again led by Alex Barbour in 5th place followed by Sophie Davies in a strong 19th place and Olivia Smyth in 37th to bring the team home in 6th place.
