WSEH Young Athletes Team made the best possible start in their defence of the national title they won in Manchester last September with a resounding victory by a massive points margin, in their opening National Young Athletes League Southern Premier match on Sunday

  • Male Team Report
  • Under 17 men
    The WSEH Under 17 Men dominated throughout. The match opened with second places in the 400m hurdles from Cameron MacRoberts(65.8secs) and Nathan Ditton(71.8 secs) – both personal bests. The 200m saw Ainsley Campbell(22.7secs) and Seamus Burke(23.8 secs) scoring a winning double and Campbell went on to record another victory in the 400m, this time with Rikki Letch as his partner, both being timed at 51.1 secs – this time with the Channel 4 TV cameras rolling for a new sport documentary. The 800m saw a repeat of the WSEH points monopoly with Elliot Woolmer(2m00.9) and Connor Vine(2m02.6) providing the action. WSEH loosened their grip slightly in the 300m where Keegan Lymn was 2nd in 9m38.5 but Alex Goodall won the B string in 9m47.9. There were 2nd places in the 100m hurdles from Alex Peden(14.9secs) and Cameron MacRoberts in 16.0 secs. The rolling tide of success reurned in the 1500m Steeplechase where Nathan Ditton (4m44.8) and James Tidd(4m56.2) saw off the opposition. WSEH’s domination continued in the Field Events. Alex Peden(1m70) and David Walker(1m50) emerged winners in the High Jump. There was a surprise winning double in the Triple Jump from novice jumpers Charlie Smith(11m51) and David Walker(9m50). Seamus Burke slotted into the Long Jump at the last minute to score another win with 5m34, with Ryan Wicks 2nd on 4m21. The vein of successes continued in the Throwing Events. Ryan Barrett (35m27) and Mark White(29m48) scored a double victory in the Discus. The hammer saw White repeat his winning streak ( 40m44) but this time supported by Teo Kubeina(40m99) to take maximum points.. The final field event produced another winning double from Lee Bosson ( 37m51) and Alex Peden ( 30m40).

    Under 15 Boys
    Points were much harder to come by in this age group and the lone WSEH winner on the track was Rickie Harvie who ran the 1500m from the front and was rewarded with a new personal best of 4m33.5 secs, with Ben Bradley in 2nd place with 4m42.7
    The best sprint result came in the 100m where Mitchell Turner(13.1secs) and James Barry(13.5secs) both took 2nd places. Good support performances were provided in the Jumps from Michael Christian and Oliver Carroll and in the Throws from Gurlal Randhawa and newcomer Cameron Crawford.

    Under 13 Boys
    This age group produced the Athlete of the Match award for WSEH, George Butler scoring a hat trick of victories in the 100m (31.1secs), 200m ( 26.5secs) and the Long Jump(4m68). Giles Robinson partnered him in the sprints, winning the B 200m in 29.7 secs and taking 2nd in the 100m in 14.3 secs. and Patrick Berry provided the link in the Long Jump with a B string win with 3m62. Gus Cockle was the best of the WSEH distance runners, winning the 1500m in 4m56.8. Newcomer George Bourne seems to have secured the High Jump slot with his 2nd place with 1m30.

    The concluding relay events saw WSEH continue to reel in the points. There were victories in the Under 17 4x400m(Campbell, Letch, Woolmer,Vine) and 2nd places in the Under 17 Men 4x100m and Under 13 Boys 4x100m.

  • Under 17 Ladies
    A perfect start from the 300 Hurdles with Laura Burke and Aimee Partridge collecting maximum points.
    There were maximum points in the sprints. Georgia Lamothe and Karimah Muhammad (100m), Georgia and Shalisha Patrick (PB 26.4), Emily Barrett (PB 43.8) and Hannah Kirby (300m). Emily also set a new best in the 800m (2.18.8 PB).
    The sprint hurdles duo of Charlotte Banks (12.8 PB) and Sarah Phelps continued their fine form winning maximum points in the 80 Hurdles.
    In the 3000m there were debut runs over this distance for Maryse Haynes (11.00.1 PB) and Emily Wilkinson (12.26.5 PB). For Maryse and Emily, they were up against one of the top distance runners in the country (Ruth Haynes from Aldershot) who won the race. Lois Bond and Alyssa Spitzer also faced a top distance runner in the form of Emelia Gorecka (Aldershot) in the 1500m.
    The throws team of Ellie Norris, Tara Barratt (PB in Hammer) and Harriet Hillson scored very well as did Helen Farmer and Sarah Taplin (Javelin). Tara taking part in the Hammer for the first time by winning the “B”. Lily-Mae Fisher and Lily Guerin (2.10 PB) won their respective Pole Vault events. Letisha Richardson and Aimee Partridge also scored well in the High Jump.
    The two relay squads rounded off a perfect day with victories.

    Under 15 Girls
    Olivia Caesar, Georgie Haynes and Steph Clitheroe all recorded 2 wins each in the sprints and jumps. Ruth Bourne broke the 5 minute barrier for the first time over 1500m (4.56.3 PB). Gabriela Zivanovic and Miriam Mohammadi excelled in the throws.
    The 4x100 team missed 1st place by a thickness of a vest with Steph Clitheroe bravely missing out on winning the event.

    Under 13 Girls
    Zoe Webb, Josslyn Stottor, Zoe Toudup, Morgan Lake and Sasha Hollenbeck picked up some very good points in their events.
    Becca Croft, Kathryn Ditton (PB 2.42.7 800m), Eloise Milbourn (PB 4.17.9 1200m) and Emily Hancock (PB 4.24.5 1200m) picked up good points in the distance events.
    The relay team ended with a big win.
