WSEH scored a superb victory at Reading on Sunday to continue the defence of the National Young Athletes League title and to remain on course for a place in this year’s Final at Birmingham in September. They successfully saw off the challenge of previously unbeaten Blackheath & Bromley AC and Reading AC by a comfortable points margin. Wet and windy conditions didn`t help the athletes but they still produced a good string of results including a NEW club record in the U17 Womens 4x300m.

Under 17 Men
The local club racked up the points across the board in this age group. Ainsley Campbell was the best of the sprinters with wins in the 200m (23.0secs) and 400m(50.10secs) in very windy conditions that mitigated against fast times. Zak Curran substituted to good effect in the B 400m to take second in 53.80 secs. He was also party to the winning double in the 800m where Connor Vine won the A string in 2m1.5 secs with Curran on 2m9.1 in winning the B. Maximum points were also accrued in the 1500m via Elliot Woolmer (4m13.3) and James Bennington (4m30.0) and this was repeated in 300m through the efforts of Keegan Lymn(9m29.8) and Lewis Sloan (10m1.4). The short hurdles saw a close to best win from Sam Maguire in 41.1 secs. Yet more top points were seized by Nathan Ditton(4m51.8) and James Tidd(4m59.0) in the 1500m steeplechase. Best of the throwing events proved to be the opening Hammer where Mark White achieved a personal best 46m74 to win the A string and Iain Botting won the B with 30m69. White went on to win the B Discus with 28m67 partnering newcomer Alistair Webber who was 2nd in the A with 33m69. Best of the Jumps proved to be the Pole Vault where Charlie Smith (3m20) and David Walker (2m20) notched top points. Alex Peden’s best event proved to be the High Jump where he was 2nd with 1m70, losing a victory on count back.
Under 15 Boys
Points were much more difficult to find in this age group with the best results coming from the middle distance events. New boy Callum Todd-Ferguson made an impressive debut for the local club in winning the 800m in 2m14.4. There were second places for Ricky Harvey(4m38.2) and Ben Bradley(4m50.2) in the 1500m. Best of the throwing events proved to be the Javelin where Morgan Jury(30m97) and Findlay Fulford(21m60) both took second places. The lone win in the Jumps came from Dan Ditton in the Pole Vault with 2m40.
Under 13 Boys
George Butler was the star performer in this age group winning all his events. He opened with a 26.7 clocking in the 200m, went on to record 13.4 secs in the 100m and then jumped to a pb of 4m85 in the Long Jump. He was partnered in the sprints by Giles Robinson who grabbed second places with 29.3secs and 14.3 secs respectively.
The distance events again proved one of the local club’s strengths. Will Brennan scored a personal best of 2m27.8 in taking 2nd in the 800m with Tom Coe winning the B string in 2m32.5. The points tally was repeated in the 1500m where Gus Cockle(5m2.8) and George Bourne(5m32.2) represented.
Under 17 Ladies
Maximum points were won in the sprints. Chloe Mays and Karimah Muhammad (100m), Leah Barrow and Chloe (200m) and Georgia Lamothe (pb 40.1) and Laura Burke in the 300m.
Ella Pepper (2.28.4 pb) and Naomi Barbour both took 2nd in their 800m streams.
Bex Myers and Verity Kyley both picked up good points in the 1500m.
Alyssa Spitzer made her debut over 3000m and ran a very good 11.41.6 to take 2nd in the “A”, and was followed home by Sarah Spears who won the “B”.
Georgia Taylor set a new pb in the 300 hurdles taking 2nd place (48.9) and Hannah Kirby stepped into the event to help the team by also taking 2nd spot in her stream.
Sarah Spears and Harriet Hillson won good points in the High Jump as did Lily Guerin in the Pole Vault.
Ellie Norris set 2 pbs in the DT (27.39) and the Hammer (26.91), Tara Barratt (Hammer PB 18.10). Helen Farmer and Sarah Taplin both gained 1st places in the Javelin.
The 4x100 team were clear winners, as were the 4x300 quartet of (Hannah Kirby, Georgia Taylor, Laura Burke and Leah Barrow) who set a NEW club record of 2.49.2 to round off a good days work by the girls team.
Under 15 Girls
There were some good points scored by the sprinters / hurdlers.
Maximum points were won by Steph Clitheroe and Kate Reynolds (13.7 =pb).
There was also a PB for Joanne Fallon (2.28.9) in the 800m with Abbie Schmid running well in the “B”. Ruth Bourne continued her winning run by taking the 1500m. She was backed up by Emma Maurer who won the “B” (5.33.9 pb).
Demi Barrance (1.50 =pb) and Emma Roberts (new signing) both picked up good points in the High Jump. The Javelin throwers Katy Hills (new signing) took 2nd in the “A” and Alice Simmonds winning the “B” competition.
Under 13 Girls
Morgan Lake won both her 150m (20.4 pb) and Long Jump events and took 2nd in the hurdles. Ellie Boatman won her 70h “B” race (12.8 pb) and took 2nd in both (75m 11.3=pb) and (150m).
Tilly Compton-Stewart 2.45.6 (pb) and Olivia Saligoi 2.50.3 (pb) both ran the 800m for the first time. Becca Croft and Kathryn Ditton collected 1st and 2nd places respectively. Sasha Hollenbeck won the High Jump (1.35m pb) with Hope White also winning her stream.
There was also a double win for Morgan and Mikaela Wright in the Long Jump. Alejandra Gomez (8.56 pb) and Ellie Jackson gained some very useful points in the Shot. The 4x100 relay team rounded their day off with victory.
