WSEH emerged with three champions and three other medallists plus a host of finalists from the South of England AA Championships held at Ashford Kent over the weekend.
The Under 17 800m saw two WSEH athletes totally dominate the race. Ricky Letch and Elliott Woolmer led the charge and were never headed, though it looked at one stage that Woolmer may cause an upset leading National Schools Champion Letch off the final bend before Letch powered through to win in 1m54.5, with Woolmer in the silver position with 1m55.94 secs – a massive 5 second improvement on his previous best.
Another to shatter his best was Ainsley Campbell. He was only 2nd in the semi final of the Under 17 400m, but raised his game to win the Final in a new pb of 48.88 secs, dipping under the 49 secs barrier for the first time.
Laura Burke coasted through her Semi Final as the fastest qualifier in the Under 17 300m Hurdles, and then made certain of the title with a dominating run in the final to win in 43.67 secs.
Ryan Barrett had several ‘no throws’ in the Under 17 Discus before registering a 40m21 mark that gained him the bronze award. The other bronze medal fell to Georgie Lamothe in the U17 Ladies 200m with her clocking of 25.52 secs.
