The WSEH AC Boys team opened their Alder Valley League challenge with a comfortable victory in their home match at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday.

The best performance of the day undoubtedly came from Charlie Smith in the Under 17 Pole Vault where he totally demolished the existing League Record of 3m40 with a fantastic 4m40 that takes him to the top of the National Rankings. Nathan Ditton also improved to 3m20 in winning the B string.
There were a number of other personal bests throughout the afternoon.
In the Under 17 Age group, new signing Foluke Blackett scorched to a win in the 100metres in a new best of 11.3 secs. Lewis Bridges(24.3) and Ryan Wicks(24.6) ensured maximum points in the 200meters. Zac Curran was in a class of his own in the 400m in 51.9 secs with Jordan Thomas(54.2) and Callum Marshall (55.1) again generating major points. Curran also went on to win the 800m in 1m59.0 with another new signing Luke Hearn winning the B race in 2m12.4.
The WSEH domination continued in the 1500m, this time Ricky Harvie(4m18.0) and Jonny Dry(4m37.9) blanking out the opposition.
There were more pb’s in the Throws, Morgan Jury with 44m93c in the Javelin, with Ryan Horner on 39m29. Iain Botting took second in the Hammer with his 33m10,
Charlie Smith capped a fine afternoon with another victory in the Triple jump with 12m01. There were also good performances from Russell Waterson (1m68) and James Dixon(1m65) in the High Jump.
On the track in the Under 15 age group, points were harder to come by. It was the distance races that yielded the major share. Greg Baynham (2m20.2) and Henry Suggitt( 2m56.6) delivered in the 800m.
The throwing events were dominated by WSEH athletes. Cameron Crawford had a field day winning the Hammer(25m24), the Shot(11m38) and the Discus(28m46). He was well supported by Gurlal Randhawa who won the B Hammer(23m84) and Discus(28m16). The WSEH Javelin throwers were also to the fore via the efforts of Findlay Fulford (31m34) and Greg Titmarsh(23m84). Best of the Jumps came from Luke Quinn, 2nd in the High jump with 1m55.
The Under 13 Age group was marked by the emergence of Sean Rafique as a sprint force, winning the 100m(13.2) and 200m(28.3) in new pb’s.. George Bourne coasted to victory in the 1500m in 5m6.4. The 75m Hurdles also produced valuable points via the efforts of Will Dorey(16.2secs) and Peter Coe(17.4 secs). Tom Spellman was a winner of the Long Jump with a new pb of 4m11. Best of the throws came from newcomer Billy Webb , 2nd in the Shot with 5m79 and from Sam Fulford in the Javelin with 19m57.
There were relay wins for the Under 17 squad of Blackett, Bridges, MaCrae and Wicks in 47.1secs and for the Under 13 team of Delza Brown, Sean Rafique, Will Dorey and George Bourne in 59.6 secs.
