Amber Godwin continued her impressive form in the High Jump achieving 1m39. Amber later competed in her first Discus, where she achieved a creditable 14m19(PB). With the first of three PB’s on the day, Hope White improved her High Jump, achieving 1m36(PB). She then competed in the Discus with 16m85(PB) and lastly the 70m Hurdles 14.1secs(PB). Gemma Burgin, recently returning from holiday, ran an impressive 600m in 1m51.5. She later competed in a 150m, where she ran a terrific race, coming home in first place in 22.1secs, but unfortunately sustained an injury when she stumbled and fell while crossing the line. This, an illustration, of the many gutsy performances played out during the day. Ellie Jackson continued to impress with 11.2secs(PB) in the 75m, 19m20(PB) in the Javelin and 3m84 in the Long Jump. Debutants, Holly and Eve Daniels, competing in their first scoring events, gained valuable points for the team with Holly contesting a 600m(1m52.6PB) and the Javelin(7m82PB) while Eve covered the Shot(3m70PB). Alex Barbour and Felicity Johnson both achieved PB’s in their 1000m races. Simran Poonia, Phoebe Jones and Isabelle Charters were also in action adding to the points tally. The day started early with the Hammer. Laura Knowles, known primarily as a distance runner, took up the challenge to throw the Hammer. She started off slowly, but grew in confidence. By Laura’s last throw, she was rotating the hammer, finally achieving an incredible 14m80(PB). Alice Botting, also competing in the Hammer, was rewarded with a PB of 21m74. Alice then went on to achieve a second PB in the Discus, placing first with 17m17(PB). Both Olivia Saligoi and Greta Spitzer answered the call for the Long Jump, both girls achieving PB’s respectively. Two athletes returning to the Alder Valley after a long absence, both featured in the 75m Hurdles. Steph Clitheroe and Ellie Boatman both scored maximum points with Ellie achieving a PB of 13.1secs. Steph also featured in the 200m with training partner Olivia Caesar. Again, not normally associated with the Javelin, both Ellie Wallis and Ellie Boatman grabbed further points. Sophie Street, in her 1500m, achieved a PB of 5m01.0 while Emily Reeves scored maximum points with 5m19.1. Emily Haberfield continued to mix middle distance with High Jump by running a new PB of 2m23.2 in the 800m and achieving a first in the High Jump with 1m52. Zoe Toudup, in the Shot and Discus, Grace Wilkinson, also in the Shot and Holly Reed in the 100m alongside Olivia Caesar helped to swell the points score. Joanne Fallon, in the 800m and Olivia Saligoi, contesting a vacant High Jump, were both just outside the top spot, having to settle for second places respectivley. The relay team of Boatman, Reed, Caesar and Clitheroe romped home achieving yet another first.
U17 Ladies
Ellie Norris featured in three events, starting with the Hammer, she achieved maximum points. This was closely followed with a second in the Discus and finally another second in the Shot. During the Shot, Ellie unfortunately suffered an injury, finishing the day in a sling. After returning from a long term absence this season due to injury, Sarah Taplin was again gracing the team sheet, partnering Ellie in the Hammer, where she achieved a PB of 15m62, with Ellie again in the Discus(16m80SB) and finally the Javelin gaining another SB with 29m51. Alongside Sarah in the Javelin, a gutsy athlete, prepared to help the team in any way, saw Alice Wills throw 9m60(PB) gaining maximum points. Earlier in the day Alice competed in the Long Jump for the first time, again gaining a first with 3m35(PB) and finally in her more familiar role, the 1500m, where she just missed breaking the 5 minute barrier, scoring 5m00.4(PB). Rosie Adams seemed to absorb anything that was given to her. With the 300m Hurdles being the first in the trilogy of events, Rosie crossed the line in first place in a convincing time of 52.4secs. Another first for Rosie came in the 800m(2m33.2) following up with a second in the 300m(46.0secs). Sarah Hing was another who took on three events. A first in the 300m Hurdles(56.5secs), another first in the 80m Hurdles(17.0secs) and second in the Triple Jump(7m74). Miriam Mohammadi’s Triple Jump saw her gain a new PB of 8m54 with another PB coming in the Long Jump(3m51) and finally scoring maximum points in the Shot with 6m06. Sprinters Kijana Richardson and returning athlete Damisola Tijani, both came home in first place. Kijana featured again in the 200m, gaining yet another first. She was supported by Charlotte Banks, who equaled her SB with 28.9secs. Charlotte was asked to cover the High Jump just ahead of her normal event, the 80m Hurdles. She achieved maximum points in both events with a PB in the High Jump. Alyssa Spitzer featured in the High Jump and the 1500m, achieving maximum points in the latter. Naomi Barbour and Hannah Widgington were both high points earners in their events. Last race of the day saw the relay team of Banks, Hing, Adams and Richardson cross the line finishing with yet another win.
Alongside the scoring events detailed above, WSEH were also competing in many non-scoring events. Some of these athletes are new to WSEH and were having their first taste of competition. Many in this category fall in the Under 11 age group. This age group can get overlooked in these reports, as they never feature in scoring events in the Alder Valley League. To go some way to redress this imbalance, the following U11’s featured in this match.
Amelia Dorey contested the 600m with 2m08.5, a 150m in 26.5secs and a 75m in 12.5secs. Juliet Ehinger also featured in the 600m(2m02.4) along with the Long Jump(3m04). The last of the U11’s attending this match saw Sammy Bonny run a convincing 1000m race coming home in first place in 3m58.8. A promising set of achievements from our very young athletes.
