After an absence of one season, WSEH returned to the British League Premiership for only the third time in their history. Last time the team were clearly outclassed but now the team were able to compete and actually produced three winners. On the track it was Junior International, Deji Tobais, who won the 200m B race in 21.65 secs and in the 800m B race, Rory Graham-Watson, led from start to finish to record an immaculate win. Our third victory was in the A string Javelin where Under 20 star, Dan Pembroke, sent the spear a massive 70.04m to secure a well deserved victory. Debuts were made by Lee Reynolds (1500m), Nathan Ditton (Steeplechase), Alex Warner (Hammer), Alex Ojo (100m) and Ryan Barrett (Discus). The other debutant was Josh Moss who only came to watch but proved his worth when he was drafted into the 4 x 400m relay and ran an extremely promising leg.
Great Britain International, Nigel Levine, put himself on the line for the Club by competing in the 200m, 400m and both Relays while his fellow quarter miler, Stephen Johnson, followed suit in both relays.
A welcome return to high level athletics, after a two year injury layoff, was made by Mens Club captain, Andrew Clements, who returned to his 400m Hurdles producing a time just outside his PB. He also showed his commitment to the Team by running a great leg in the Relay after having just finished the Javelin. Team captain, Mark Holloway, produced his third best ever leap in the Long Jump to prove that once rid of his niggling injuries he will once again be a force to be feared. The PB’s were produced by both Nathan White and Owain Jones in the 3000m and by Under 20 stars, Steve Watson and Ryan Barrett in the Discus.
There is still a great deal of work to be done before the Mens Team can establish themselves in the top flight but the improvement over the last two seasons has now seen them produce performances of a high standard and show that automatic relegation will NOT be such as two seasons ago.
