Following the County Championships over the weekend WSEH AC emerged with 5 athletes topping the National Ranking Lists.
Morgan Lake who competed in the Berks AA Championships in Reading, is the lone female to top the lists in the Under 15 Girls Long Jump with 5m63. Also at the Berks Championships Taylor Campbell improved by 3 metres in the Under 15 Hammer to make his mark with 52m93. At the combined Bucks/Oxon Champs in Oxford, Dan Pembroke took pole position nationally in the Under 20 Javelin with 66m55. Also at Oxford, Cameron Crawford moved some twenty plus places to top of the national pile with his new County record in the Under 15 Discus of 43m 93. The final place at the top of the UK lists is held by Steve Watson in the Under 20 Discus with 52m56 and a winner of the Herts Championships.
Altogether WSEH AC provided some 44 County Champions across the age groups with yet more results to be confirmed..
In the Berks Champs at Reading, Aimee Partridge opened the WSEH account with a victory in the Under 20 400m Hurdles in 72.1 secs. That was quickly followed by Sam Maguire in the next race, the Under 17 400m Hurdles with a new County record in 55.8secs. Shalisha Patrick was next to show taking the U17 100m title in 12.4 secs whilst Michelle Warren took the Senior race in a slower 12.9secs. Jonathan Sawyer kept up the momentum with a win in the U20 100m in 11.2secs and Steve Johnson completed the haul by winning the Senior 100m in 11.0 secs.
The short hurdles events also provided an impressive haul of titles. Morgan Lake opened to win the first of her 3 titles in the U13 75m Hurdles with 11.9 secs, quickly followed by Charlotte Banks in the U17 80m Hurdles in 12.3 secs. Faye Williams was the next to shine in the Under 20 100m Hurdles in 17.4 secs with a back to form Harriet Shurley next on the track in the Senior 100m Hurdles winning in 17.9 secs. Sam Maguire grabbed his second title of the day in the U17 100m Hurdles in a pb 14.1secs.
Another to complete the double was Steve Johnson in the Senior 200m in 22.2 secs. whilst Nathan White, usually seen in the longer distance races, showed a rare turn of speed to win the Senior 800m in 1m58.2.
The field events produced more WSEH champions with the Hammer event being dominated by WSEH athletes. Veteran Janet Smith opened with a victory in the Senior event with 42m37. This was followed by Taylor Campbell’s championship record 52m93 in the U15 Boys. Mark White emulated his elder brother’s win in the 800m to take his own title in the U20 event, and Mikki Finn continued the grab raid with a win in the Senior event with 52m33.
The Jumps saw more WSEH titles. Shakira Whight won the Senior Triple Jump with 11m69, and Mark Holloway the Senior Long Jump. Morgan Lake added her second title of the day in the U15 Girls Long Jump. The WSEH duo of Steve Walker and Charlie Smith both cleared 3m60 to win the Senior and U17 Pole Vault respectively.
There was a good win in the U20m Discus from Laura James with a pb of 37m45 and Morgan Lake completed her hat trick of titles with a new County record in the U15 Girls Shot. There was more success in the Javelin, with Morgan Jury winning the U17 Mens event with 41m64 and Hannah Johnson took the Under 17 Ladies title to make it a family Johnson treble.
The Bucks Championships in Oxford saw WSEH athletes again making their mark.
Tom Evans sped to victory in the U20 200m in 22.89 secs and Nick Lingley followed with a win in the U20 1500m in 4m08.8. The hurdles events again proved fruitful for WSEH. Stephanie Clitheroe was in a class of her own in the Under 15 75m Hurdles in 11.70 secs and Cath Hall-Jones repeated the feat in the U20 100m Hurdles in 16.7 secs. The rest of the titles came in the Field Events. Star billing was grabbed by Dan Pembroke in the U20 Javelin with 66m55 and Cameron Crawford in the Under 15 Discus with 43m93 – both County records. Ellie Jackson completed the Under 13 Shot/Discus double with 7m30 and 15m57. Gabriella Zivanovic maintained the thrust with a win in the U15 Shot with 8m27 and another tile fell to Alice Botting in the U15 Hammer with 17m96. Finlay Fulford set a new pb in winning the U15 Javelin with 33m74.
There was also a brace of victories in the U17 High Jumps, from Mitchell Field (1m75) and Sophie Jenkins(1m55).
The Middlesex Championships at Perivale saw more success for WSEH athletes, particularly in the field events. Jo John opened the account with victory in the Senior Hammer with 52m99. Ryan Barrett set a new pb in winning the U20 Discus with 45m39 and sister Emily made it a family double by taking the U20 400m in 59.53 secs. Michael Harvey, his sprinting curtailed by injury, showed his potential in the throwing events to win the U13c Discus with a pb of 24m37 and Gurlal Randhawa secured his first county title in the U15 Discus with a pb of 32m88. There was a win in the U17 Pole Vault for Jade Tallent with a 1m70 clearance. The only other win on the track came from Decathlon specialist Ashley Bryant who took the Senior 110m Hurdles in 15.14secs.
Despite good representation from WSEH, titles from the competitive Surrey Championships at Kingston proved harder to achieve. Zac Curran was the star however with an 800m U17 victory in a pb of 1m56.97.
