WSEH AC made the long trip to Norwich last Sunday to contest the final match in their National Junior(U20) League series. Holiday absentees and injuries and athletes away competing in the World Junior Championships, decimated the Mens team but fortunately there were no significant gaps in the Ladies team and 19 personal bests on the day helped to boost the points tally. As such the local club finished in 5th place in the match and 3rd overall in the League with every chance of making the National Finals match in Derby in September.

The best results for the Men came in the middle and distance races. Stewart Challis was an impressive winner of the 400m in 49.4 secs. Maximum points accrued in the 800m where Josh Moss won the A race with a pb of 1m54.6 secs and Connor Vine stitched up the B race with his 1m56.7. Nick Lingley’s run of good form continued with a victory in the 1500m in 4m02.0 with 16 year old Ricky Harvie taking 2nd in the B string with 4m16.3. The improving Petru Snaiper was 3rd in the 3000m in a pb of 9m52.7. There were more good points earned in the 2000m steeplechase where Khalid Al – Abraidy was 3rd in 6m33.3 with Cameron Smart winning the B in 6m35.7
Best of the field events proved to be the Discus where Steve Watson was 2nd in 50m53 with Ryan Barrett winning the B string with 43m77.
The Ladies saw more success but this time it was the sprinters that shone through. Georgia Lamothe notched a sprint double in the 100m/200m in 12.00secs/25.1 secs(pb). She was partnered by 16 year old Shalisha Patrick in the 100m. finishing 2nd in 12.4 secs and by another 16 year old Sophie Papps in the 200m with 25.4 secs. The 400m produced a 2nd place for Laura Burke with her 57.5 secs and Emily Barrett set a new best of 64.1 secs to take 3rd in the 400m hurdles Best of the distance races proved to be the 3000m where another 16 year old Alice Wills took 3rd with 11m2.02 and Sophie Retynolds was similarly placed in the B string in 12m21.5 secs.
As with the men the best of the field events came in the Discus where Laura James was 2nd in the A string with 34m69 and 16 year old Ellie Norris set a massive new pb of 32m08 to win the B string.
The day ended on a high with WSEH wins in the final events, the 4x400m Relays. The quartet of Josh Moss, Jordan Thomas, Connor Vine, and Stewart Challis clocked 3m25.0 secs, whilst the ladies squad of Bex Myers, Emma Croft, Laura Burke and Emily Barrett finished in 3m59.6 secs.
