WSEH AC opened the defence of their National Young Athletes League Premier Division title with a resounding victory in their home match at Thames Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday.

The opening hurdles events packed in the points for the local club. Sam Maguire was a winner of the U17 Mens 100m Hurdles in 14.7 secs, going on to complete the double in the 400mHurdles in 57.0secs. Charlotte Banks was first over the line in the U17 80m hurdles in 13.0 secs whilst maximum points were accrued in the U15 Girls 75m Hurdles via Stephanie Clitheroe (11.7 secs) and Morgan Lake (12.3secs) with the feat repeated in the U 13 Girls 70mhurdles from the efforts of Phoebe Jones(13.5secs) and Alex Zivanovic(14.1secs).
WSEH athletes also were dominant in the 800m events. Zac Curran won the U17 Men in 2m1.1 whilst newcomer Charlie Critchley took the U15 Boys race in 2m20.1. Alex Barbour also duly obliged in the U13 Girls race in 2m40.1.
More maximum points befell local athletes in the U17 Men 100m, with Kamoal MaCrae and Foluke Blackett crossing the line together in 12.0 secs. Shalisha Patrick continued the trend in the U17 Ladies race, with a win in 13.0 secs and another newcomer Isobel Charters was way ahead of the opposition in the U13 Girls 75m in 11.1 secs.
The 3000m races saw a good win for Jonny Dry in the U17 in 9m58.4 whislt top points were gained by Alice Wills (10m57.7) and Maryse Haynes(10m59.3) in the U17 Women.
Both Shalisha Patrick (26.2secs) in the U17 200m and Isobel Chaters(21.6secs) in the U13 150m completed sprint doubles. The much improved Sean Rafique also secured a victory in the U13 200m in 28.0 secs.
There was almost a clean sweep by WSEH in the 1500m races, the local club providing 4 of the 5 winners. Alex Goodall set a new pb of 4m16.2 in winning the U17 Mens race with Nicola Swaffield similarly leading the field in the Under 17 Ladies with 4m56.5. Kieran Wye was first home in the U15 Boys in 4m38.4 and Becca Croft ploughed a lone furrow at the head of the U13 Girls race in 4m56.8.
It was good to see Nick Cockle coming out of the shadows of his younger siblings to win the 1500m Steeplechase in 5m18.9.
The WSEH dominance continued in the field events with maximum points coming from both first and second places. Ellie Norris(26m26) and Laura Murray (17m43) provided the goods in the U17 Discus and Gabriella Zivanovic (23m05) and Katy Hills(19m74) also obliging in the U15 event. The same situation prevailed in the U13 Boys Shot thanks to Michael Harvey(7m52) and Billy Webb(6m03). Taylor Campbell set a new best in winning the U15 Shot with 10m97 crashing through the 10m barrier and Gurlal Randhawa surpassed the 30m mark for the first time with his winning throw of 31m02 in the U15 Boys Discus. This pairing also produced maximum points in the U15 Hammer, Taylor Campbell with yet another pb of 48m73 and Gurlal Randhawa with 23m09. The Javelin also proved highly rewarding for the local club with Taylor Edwards-Drew(34m13) and Findlay Fulford(30m36) shutting out the opposition in the U15 event whilst Morgan Jury(41m19 ) won the U17 and Ellie Rayer(27m57) the U15.
The Pole Vault provided wins for Charlie Smith (3m40) in the U17 and Lily Guerin(2m10) in the corresponding Ladies event.
The Long Jump also saw two WSEH winners in Morgan Lake (5m14) in the U15 Girls and Hope White(3m87) in the U13 Girls event. The High Jump again produced more WSEH winners in Mitchell Field (1m75) in the U17 Men , Demi Barrance(1m50) in the U17 Ladies and Luke Quinn (1m50) in the U15 Boys.
WSEH were tops in four of the relay races. Seamus Burke, Sam Maguire, Kamoal MacRae and Foluke Blackett blitzedf the pack with their 46.7secs in the 4x1o00m. The U15 Girls team of Zoe Toudup, Morgan Lake, Olivia Caesar and Steph Clitheroe were also streets ahead in 52.3 secs and the U13 Girls quartet of Alex Barbour, Ellie Jackson, Grace Seymour and Isobel Charters had a closer victory in 59.3 secs.
The meeting finished on a high for the local club with another victory in the final event, the 4x400m U17 relay, the squad of Jordan Thomas, Luke Hearn, Callum Marshall, and Zac Curran clocking 3m40.5 secs.
