The WSEH AC young athletes continued on their triumphant path with another win in their National Young Athletes League series to maintain their unbeaten tag and place at the top of the league table. Sunday’s match at Harrow was no formality however with 2nd placed Tonbridge AC and 4th placed Reading AC as their opponents. In the end WSEH AC ran out comfortable winners with a 37 point cushion.

Match result: WSEH AC 602pts, Tonbridge AC 559.5pts, Reading AC 545.5pts

Under 17 Men
Foluke Blackett, back from injury, was a winner of the 100m in 11.6 secs and took 2nd in the 200m in a pb of 23.6secs. Jordan Thomas continued the winning trend in the 400m in another pb of 53.0secs. Zac Curran moved up distance to contest the 1500m and was never headed in 4m17.0. Ricky Harvie’s first attempt at the Steeplechase saw him move to the top of the club rankings with his time of 4m38.9. Sam Maguire had a winning double in the in the 100m Hurdles ( 13.9secs) and the 400m Hurdles(56.6 secs)Best of the Jumps proved to be the Pole Vault where Charlie Smith eased his way over 4m00. Luke Holmes also contributed with 2nd places in both the Triple Jump (11m74) and the Long Jump(5m32). Best of the throws proved to be Morgan Jury’s 2nd place in the Javelin with 41m48.

Under 17 Ladies
WSEH AC scored heavily in this age group. Shalisha Patrick sped away from her chasers in both the 100m(12.3secs) and 200m(26.3secs). Emma Croft was another to score a brace of victories, in the 300m(43.4secs) and 800m(2m25.7).. Charlotte Banks was also in winning form in the 80m Hurdles in 12.3secs.Lily Mae Fisher set a new club record of 3m20 to win the Pole Vault with newcomer Kirsty Lai ensuring maximum points with her pb of 2m80. The throwing events produced more much needed points with Ellie Norris contributing double success in the Hammer (32m07) and Discus (24m77) and Hannah Johnson continuing the sequence in the Javelin with 36m07.

Under 15 Boys
Points were harder to come by in this age group with just one track victory from Kieran Wye in the 1500m in 4m29.4 but there were 2nd places from George Butler in the 400m in a pb of 56.0 secs and for new boy Rob Hall in the 800m in 2m9.6.
The field events proved more fruitful. Luke Quinn won the High Jump with 1m60 and Taylor Campell in the Hammer (55m77), Cameron Crawford in the Discus(42m82) and Alan Martin with a massive 4m pb in the Javelin(38m87) seeing off their rivals.

Under 15 Girls
As with the Boys, points were hard to achieve in this age category. Becca Croft led the way in the 800m in 2m19.4 secs and Steph Clitheroe had her expected win in the 75m Hurdles in 11.5secs, with Morgan Lake ensuring maximum points with her 2nd place in 11.8secs. Lake went on to secure the only field event win – in the Long jump with a superb 5m43.

Under 13 Boys
Sean Rafique was the star with triple success in the 100m(13.3secs) 200m ( 28.0secs) and, in his first competion over the 75m Hurdles, winning in 13.5secs. Will Dorey made it maximum points in the latter with his 2nd place in 15.6secs. Useful points accrued in the field events with victories for George Bourne in the High Jump (1m38) and Michael Harvey in the Shot (6m68) plus a second in the Long Jump from Tom Spellman (3m78)

Under 13 Girls
There was no one of similar prominence amongst the Girls but several youngsters made their mark. Kathryn Ditton ( 4m9.2) and Gemma Burgin( 4m11.3) were 2nd and 3rd in the 1000m and Alex Zivanovic also took 2nd in the 70m Hurdles in 13.1secs. Isabelle Charters underlined her potential with a win in the Long Jump with 4m42 and Ellie Jackson was 2nd in the High jump with 1m25.

The match ended on a high with wins in the 4 x100m relays in the U17 Men (Foluke Blackett, Kamoal MaCrae, Sam Maguire, Jordan Thomas), in the U15 Boys (Chris Ferreira, Callum Blackburn, Max Dorey, Luke Wallis), and the U17 Ladies (Shalisha Patrick, Rachel Abebrese, Kijana Richardson, Sarah Hing). More success followed in the U17 Ladies 4x300m from the quartet of Emma Croft, Alice Wills, Naomi Barbour and Ella Tucker.
