WSEH AC athletes were in abundance at the Aviva U23/20 Championships in Bedford over the weekend, hoping to stake their place in the GB team for the World U23 Championships later this year. Several made their mark thus staking a serious claim for a GB team pace.
The local club emerged with four champions, one silver mdallist and three bronze winners.
Current European U20 Champion Lawrence Clarke enhanced his growing reputation with a win in the U23 110m Hurdles in a new Club Record time of 13.60 secs. Dan Pembroke’s run of success continued with a victory in the U20 Javelin with 72m43 and Alan McKie bounced back to form with a victory in the U20 High Jump with 2m10.
Deji Tobais was narrowly beaten in the 100m, claiming silver in 10.57secs. Steve Watson set a new WSEH club record in claiming bronze in the Discus with 54m94 with another bronze coming in the 400m Hurdles U20 via Ashley Fry in 54.00secs.
Sophie Upton was the sole WSEH female champion with a new club record in the U23 Pole Vault with 3m95.. Shelayna Oskan staked her claim for a relay place with 3rd in the 400m in 55.09 secs.
