Part 2 of the South of England Championships at Lee Valley saw WSEH athletes continue to add to the medal tally of last weekend.
An anticipated gold fell to the talented Morgan Lake in the Under 17 Long Jump with a leap of 5m53 and she went on to also take bronze in the 60m hurdles in 8.78secs. The surprise gold also came in this latter event where Charlotte Williams made her breakthrough with 9.42secs in the Under 15 final.
Coach Steve McLennan led by example to the large contingent of WSEH Pole Vaulters present by notching silver in the Senior Mens category with his 4m70 clearance.. Multi eventer Celia Quansah added to her Pentathlon title of last weekend with a silver medal in the U17 Shot with 10m83. Rion Pierre scorched to a new pb of 6.56secs in securing another silver in the 60m sprint. The Triple Jump saw a welcome return from a long term injury problem by Michael Puplumpa and he showed that he was fully recovered with a massive pb of 15m64 to take the silver award. Sophie Papps, who swept all before her last season, showed that the move into the U20 age group has not hindered her medal prospects and she took silver in the U20 60m in 7.59secs.
There were also a trio of bronze medals in the WSEH medal haul – Khalid Al Abaidy showed his versatility by adding to his Herts Cross Country gold, with a bronze in the 1500m in 3m59.46, just heading Zak Curran who was 4th in 4m2.41. Another bronze went to Shakira Wight in the Senior Ladies Long Jump with 5m89.with the final bronze falling to Shelayna Oskan in the 200m in 24.95secs.
Just out of the medal tally was Karryim Irving in the Senior Long Jump with a pb of 7m10, for 4th., Luke Quinn in the U17 High Jump with another pb of 1m85, Katja Eravisto in the Sen 1500m in 4m36.25, Emma Croft in the U20 1500m in 5m15.89, Alice Humble in the Senior Pole Vault with 3m30, Isabelle Charters in the U15 Long Jump with 4m97 and Sam Maguire in the U20 60m hurdles with 8.41secs.
