The long trip to Mansfield proved a deterrent to many WSEH AC athletes and thus the local club only had token representation in the National Cross Country Relays event on Saturday.

Two Senior Mens teams faced the starter in their race with the A team of Alex Goodall (17m12), Simon Millet (16m52), Kieran Wye(17m20), and James Tidd (17m36) claiming 34th place. The B team of Johnny Dry (16m56), Ben Findlay (18m19), Kieran Best (18m29) and Seb Pencole (17m20) were 52nd. 178 teams competed with Tonbridge AC the winners.

Just one WSEH team lined up for the U15 Girls race, Holly Landon (7m47), Isabelle Craven (8m05), and Madison Foxcroft (8m97) placing 23rd of the 101 teams that finished. Winners were Blackheath & Bromley AC

The best result of the day for the local club came from the U13 Girls team of Charlotte Dewar (7m28), Rachel Clutterbuck (8m11) and Oona Gibbons (8m16) who finished a highly creditable 7th out of the 164 teams. Hallamshire Harriers took the title.

Four WSEH AC athletes have been selected to compete for GB in the Commonwealth Games on Australia Gold Coast next April.

They are:
Morgan Lake – High Jump
Rachel Wallader – Shot
Shelayna Oskan-Clarke – 800m
Ashley Bryant – Decathlon

Next Saturday WSEH AC is due to contest the second fixture in the Chiltern League Series with a match in Milton Keynes.
