Following their successes in the early season Southern Cross Country Relays, there were high hopes of repeat performances in the Southern Cross Country team and individual championships at Stanmer Park Brighton on Saturday. The hopes materialised with team golds, team silvers and an individual silver medal.
The best team result came in the U20 Ladies race where WSEH athletes topped the podium with a 4th place for Meg Ormond in 23m24, 6th place for Sarah Chapman in 23m33, 8th place for Alex Barbour in 23m55 with the wining team completed by Tilly Compton–Stewart in 18th place on 25m08. There were 3 other WSEH finishers in Beccy Pope(32nd/26m35), Juliette Soane (37th/27m00) and Charlotte Harris (41st/27m28).
The day had started well for the local club with team silver awards in the U13 Girls race. Charlotte Dewar led the way with an individual silver in a time of 10m50. She was well supported by Freya Wilcox (15th/12m40), Rachel Clutterbuck (19th/11m34) and Oona Gibbons (31st/11m48). There were two other WSEH runners in Alana Thomsen (65th/17.10) and Deya Baga(85th/12m32). Race winners were Chiltern Harriers.
The U15 Girls team repeated the feat in their race, also claiming the silver team medals. Eloise Harris was the first to appear in 11th place in 14m41, with the Young sisters not far adrift. Amy Young crossed the line in 25th place in 15m03 with Jasmine Young 30th in 15m17 with the team scoring completed by Isabelle Craven in 53rd spot in 15m28. There were two other WSEH finishers in Kate Clutterbuck(73rd/15m53) and Lily Rolfe(104th). Race winners were Herne Hill Harriers.
The U17 Girls did well for their 6th place, headed by Molly Jones(21st/18m57), with the team completed by Maya Hodgson(45th/19m47), Daisy Schotting-Robinson(55th/20m18) and Lily Schotting-Robinson (94th/22m54). Race winners were Guildford & Godalming AC.
The U15 Boys could not quite match the medal winning exploits of their female counterparts but still finished a respectable 8th. Best of the bunch was Luke Hynes in 23rd place with 15m14, followed by Sam Hodgson 38th in 15m33, Will Goddard in 91st spot on 16m13 with the team completed by Josh Patteson 117th in 16m34. There were two other WSEH athletes – Jordi Evans-Rodriguez 150th and Ross Van Heerde 181st. Race winners were Aldershot AC.
The U17 Men finished in 10th place in their race, led home by Dan Brookling in 28th place with 21m27. Matt Clutterbuck was next to appear in 57th place in 22m16, followed by Shaun Hudson (77th/22m45) and Zain Kothati(150th/25m01). Race winners were Aldershot AC.
Just one WSEH Senior Lady toed the start line – Charlotte Firth finishing in 39th place.
There were no Senior Men competitors, choosing to focus on the National Cross Country Championships some 3 weeks away.

Next Sunday sees WSEH AC stage the 3rd meeting in the Wintwer Indoor Series at the Thames Valley Athletics centre, with events kicking off at 12.30pm.
