WSEH AC were accorded the highest accolade last week when they were awarded the title of Top Track & Field Club in the UK by the national periodical Athletics Weekly, seeing off tough opposition in the process.
The award was based on club team performances over the 2011 summer season. The club achievements during this period were:
Champions – Jo Smith Cup against the top combined Mens/Ladies Teams.
UK Womens League Premier Division – 3rd placed.
British Mens League Div 1 – 3rd placed.
National Under 20 League Final – Derby - 4th placed
On Saturday the largest WSEH team for years competed in the English Cross Country Relays at Berry Hill Park , Mansfield . For most of the 35 strong junior squad it was their first experience of this high quality event and they all rose to the occasion.
In similar fashion to the start of the season, the closing match for track and field fell to the Alder Valley Girls League with the Trophy & Plate Final held at Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC’s home track at TVAC, Eton. With near perfect conditions, uncharacteristic sunshine and little wind, the girls of WSEH rounded off the season by becoming Trophy Champions. Leading from the early stages of the match, WSEH kept local rivals Guildford & Godalming AC, Reading AC and Aldershot Farnham & District at bay throughout.
