There was a terrific performance from the WSEH Young Athletes Team in their National Premier League match at Eton on Sunday when they inflicted a resounding defeat on last season’s national champions Enfield & Haringey AC.
Match Result: WSEH AC 454pts, Team Southampton 384pts, Enfield & Haringey AC 383pts, Herne Hill Harriers 310pts
A strong all round performance was the key to WSEH’s success with the Boys and Girls playing an equal part which bodes well for the matches ahead.
Under 17 Men
Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club struggle to field a full team in the opening match of the Southern League 2008 season.
In the first match of the 2008 Southern League season the men of WSEH that were available all performed well with Steve Kimber smashing his PB in the 5000m by over 10 seconds when he totally destroyed the field to lap everyone. John Bowers’s rare appearance on the team list resulted in a win in the “B” string. Both then showed true club spirit to then compete in the 1500m.
With several of their key Under 17 athletes competing in the National Junior U20 League Match at Hendon, it was perhaps not surprising that WSEH found themselves playing second fiddle to a strong Reading AC team in their opening Alder Valley Boys League match at Bracknell on Sunday.
There were some good performances from those Under 17 athletes who were at Bracknell. Stewart Challis was a convincing winner of the 200m in a pb of 24.0 secs.
WSEH made the short trip to Hendon on Sunday to contest the first of their National Junior (U20) League matches. The club lost several athletes through the overrun of the Soccer and Rugby season, hardest hit being the heavy throws section in the men’s section of the match. The club finished in 5th position in the 8 club match and will need to raise their game in the remaining matches if they are to repeat their achievement of making the League Finals in the last three seasons.
WSE & Hounslow Ladies are victorious!
Despite facing last year’s league champions, Herts Phoenix and having to contest the National Junior League (NJAL) on the Sunday of this weekend, Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) ladies managed to field a team strong enough to outclass the other 3 teams in the first Southern Women’s League match of the season.
