Over 100 athletes descended upon the Thames Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday from as far afield as Cornwall and Manchester to compete in the final meeting of the WSEH Winter indoor series.
The meeting saw the emergence of another possible future WSEH International when Stephanie Clitheroe set a new UK Age Record in the Under 13 60m Hurdles with her time of 9.66 secs, expunging the 10 year old mark of current Senior International, Sarah Claxton.
There were good performances from the other WSEH athletes on display. Mark Holloway was the 4th fastest in the Mens 60m Sprint with a time of 6.99 secs and Triple Jump specialist Julian Golley was 10th fastest with his 7.29 secs. In the same event Ainsley Campbell was 2nd placed in the Under 17 Age Group with his clocking of 7.45 secs. Helen Pryer was the best of the Senior Ladies with her 7.72secs, just edging team mate Karlene Turner who was 3rd place with 7.75 secs. Karimah Muhammad topped the lists in the Under 15 Girls event with her time of 8.22 secs, with Rosie Wege 3rd on 8.62 secs and Georgia Connor-Wilder was 2nd placed in the Under 17 Ladies with 8.38 secs. Perhaps not surprisingly, Steph Clitheroe was also the best placed of the Under 13 Girls with her time of 8.49 secs..
WSEH athletes dominated the Long jump. Mark Holloway was the best of the Senior Men with his 6m96 with Julian Golley 2nd placed with 6m90. David Harvey was the best of the Under 17’s with his 5m96, with newcomer Mark Forrest 2nd placed with 5m78. There was another 2nd place for Jenny Pacey in the Senior Ladies with 5m72. Amy Quelch was also 2nd in the Under 20 Age group with her 5m00 and the busy Steph Clitheroe was another 2nd placer in the Under 13 Group with her 3m96.
In the Senior Mens Shot event, David Shiel improved once again to take 2nd in the Senior event with 11m92.whilst Sarah Phelps won the Under 17 Ladies with a best of 6m95.
