WSEH AC made an encouraging start to their winter cross country campaign in the opening Apex Sports Chiltern League Div 1 match at Cassiobury Park, Watford on Saturday.
Senior Men
Pride of place went to Nathan White, 3rd in the Senior Mens event, and the first Under 20 athlete home in 28m29. He was tracked by Steve Kimber who was 6th in 29m33. Another of WSEH’s promising Under 20’s, Alex Tovey was next to cross the line in 23rd place in 30m27. Tim Haughian was 38th in 31m20 whilst another WSEH Under 20, Vince Bangs, was 42nd in 31m40. More Under 20’s followed in his wake- George Glancy was 50th in 32m11 and Luke Turton 85th in 34m12. The veterans then started to pile in to complete the scoring team of 10. Dave huck was 90th in 34m27, Bob Fuller 94th in 34m41 and Roy Temple 99th in 34m53.
Other WSEH finishers were Rodger Hughes 106th, Mick Hill 122nd, Rob Briggs 149th, Mike Ashmore 184th and Ian Marmont 185th.
WSEH were hit in the team event when two of their top runners Owain Jones and Charlie Coleman, both nursing injuries, failed to complete the course

Senior Ladies
Mary Edwards, improving with age, was the best of the WSEH Senior Ladies in 12th place in 25m34, just 10 seconds ahead of supervet Paula Fudge who was 15th in 25m44. Leigh James had a good run for her 25th spot in 27m17 and Yolanda Edwards completed the team in 34th place in 28m34.

Under 17 Men
Cameron Smart proved the best of the 5 WSEH competitors, coming home in 19thb place in 23m03. Newcomer Chris Reilly showed that he will be a useful addition to the squad, finishing in 32nd place in 23m59 with Nick Lingley in touch in 33rd place in 24m04. Callum Calvert completed the team scoring in 36th place in 24m49 whist Luke Porter was 39th.

Under 17 Ladies
There was some good packing from the WSEH scoring quartet with four home in 10 but even this was not enough to prevent Harrow AC taking the team event. Vicky Fouhy continues to impress and she was 3rd in 19m50. Rachel Stedman was also in good form, finishing 6th in 19m55, just ahead of Andrea Fox who was 6th in 20m08. Louise Lingley completed the team in 8th place in 21m07 and newcomer Samantha Cross was 21st.

Under 15 Boys
Disappointingly only 3 WSEH Under 15 Boys toed the line. Best of these was Lewis Sloan, comfortable in 10th place in 18m03. James Bennington was next home in 16th in 18m23 and Kingsley Swan was 53rd in 24m29

Under 15 Girls
There was a much better turnout by the girls with 10 facing the starter. Bex Myers 12th in 10m03, just had the edge on erstwhile sprinter Leah Barrow, who showed reserves of stamina that may see her converting to the middle distances. She was 13th in 10m07. Lauren Wye was next home in 19th place in 10m17 and Lois Bond had her best run to date to complete the team with her 20th place in 10m20.
Other WSEH finishers: 25th Naomi Barber, 31st Hannah Radvan, 33rd, Marise Haynes, 47th Katie Trevatt, 49th Verity Kyley, 52nd Kerry Gorman

Under 13 Boys
The WSEH team was at full strength and the team did not disappoint with a close 3rd place. As expected Jay Fieldmartin was in the vanguard with his 8th place in 9m26, but he had to use his speed to hold off Kieran Wye in the charge for the line, 9th in 9m27. Rickie Harvie was 14th in 9m43 and David DeVilliers was the surprise package, completing the team with his 20th place in 10m05.

Under 13 Girls
There was a large contingent of WSEH girls in this age group, many making their club debut. Perhaps not surprisingly WSEH were never in the hunt for team glory.
Best on the day proved to be Emma croft with her 13th place in 10m38. Chloe Allen also ran to form with her 19th place in 10m48. There was somewhat of a gap before the next WSEH runners appeared. Tiffany Jones was 445th in 11m34 and Cindy Sidhu 51st in 11m55.

Under 11 Boys
WSEH’s strong squad in this age group last year looks set to be repeated.. Ed Gumpert led the way with his 6th place in 7m17, just heading Joe Hudson, 8th in 7m20. Charlie Smee was on his heels with his 9th place in 7m22 and Logan Bunker closed the team in 16th place ion 7m41.

Under 13 Girls
Becca Croft looks to have a share of her sister Emma’;s talent. She was pipped on the line taking 2nd in 7m16. Yet another of the Croft girls, Anna, was next home in 12th place in 8m29. Phoebe Jones was 25th in 9m05 and sprinter Michaela Wright 37th in 9m53
