WSEH AC’s main focus last weekend was in a number of indoor meetings taking place across the country including the club’s own indoor meeting at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre.
Perhaps the best performances came in the Inter City Challenge in Sheffield where WSEH’s Jenny Pacey continued her fine run of form to win the Long Jump with 6m16. Training partner Shakira Whight was also on song with her 3rd place in the Triple Jump with 12m25.
Some 150 athletes were attracted to the 3rd in the WSEH Winter Indoor Series at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre. Chinedu Monye was the best of the Senior Ladies with her 7.77 secs time in the 60m, with Michelle Warren ranked 2nd on 8.32 secs, just ahead of Harriet Shurley on 8.33 secs. Shalisha Patrick was the 3rd best in the U17 Ladies with her clocking of 8.04 secs. Newcomer Delza Brown was the 2nd placed Under 13 Boy with 9.51 secs.
Other WSEH times:
U20 Men – David Harvey 7.38secs, Tom Evans 7.38 secs.
Hayley Yelling received a further accolade for her performance in winning the European Cross Country championships in Dublin in December when she was European ‘athlete of the month’ by the European Athletic Union.
WSEH had two athletes competing in the McCain International Cross Country Challenge in Antrim on Saturday. Hayley Yelling led home the GB team in 5th place in a race won by Ireland’s Mary Cullen. Competing for Wales, Owain Jones was 22nd in the Senior Mens race.
WSEH athletes were dominant in the Surrey Schools Cross Country Championships. Pride of place went to Eugenie Cockle who headed 150 girls in the Primary Schools race, crossing the line well clear of her chasers. New members Tara De Klerk and Nancy Scott were 7th and 8th respectively and Evie Higton was 18th.
There were a similar number of starters in the Boys race with Joe Brown returning in 14th place.
The Year 7 girls event saw Kathryn Ditton the best of the WSEH trio in 7th, with Lucy Maurer 13th and Lauren Miller 33rd. In the Boys, Will Goddard was 43rd.
