The re-arranged Middlesex AA Cross Country Championships at Ruislip saw Martha Reynolds amongst the medals, taking a bronze in the U20 race. Rosie Adams was 8th in the U15 Girls race and Ian May 15th in the Senior Men
WSEH athletes dominated in the South of England Indoor Track & Field Championships at Lee Valley Stadium over the weekend emerging with 4 Area Champions, a new Championship best performance plus a host of minor medals.
Morgan Lake was the star of the show, winning the Under 15 Girls Shot event in a new Championship Record of 11m97, taking a silver in the 60m Hurdles with her 9.31 secs and finished just out of the medals in the Long Jump with 4m88.
With doubt hanging over whether the snow would result in cancellation of the 3rd in the Apex Sports Chiltern League Cross Country Series until the very last minute, it was perhaps not surprising that many of the WSEH athletes made other arrangements for the weekend.
Thus it was that WSEH failed to field complete teams in most of the senior age groups.
Senior Men Race
Hayley Yelling’s fine run of form continued in the televised BUPA International Cross Country Challenge Race in Edinburgh on Sunday. She skipped over the snow covered ground to lead for most of the race before being overhauled by World Champion Tirunesh Dibaba but had the satisfaction of being the first UK runner home in 4th place seeing off the challenge of her younger rivals Freya Murray and Steph Twell in a sprint for the line.
The local club had two of it’s multi-eventers, Matt George and Asley Bryant, in action in Sheffield over the weekend contesting the England Combined Events Championships. Ashley Bryant was the most successful of the duo taking the bronze medal in the U20 age group. Matt George produced a new pb in the Shot event but still had to settle for 8th place in the Senior Mens category.
Details:
George 60m 7.46secs, Long Jump 6m31, Shot 13m08, High Jump 1m75, 60m hurdles 8.67secs, Pole Vault 4m10, 1000m 2m47.85 Total points 4891
WSEH AC athletes were in fine form at Part 1 of the South of England Indoor Championships last weekend emerging with a new meeting record, two gold medals , a silver and a bronze. The new meeting record fell to Dawn hunt in the Senior Ladies 400m where she smashed the existing record by over half a second with her time of 54.85 secs. Nigel Levine made it a Senior 400m double when he coasted through with wins in his heat and semi final to win gold in the final, again with well over a half a second advantage over his chasers.
