As someone who’s spent most of their life training in track and field, some people often wonder why horse racing, particularly the Grand National, holds such a special place in my heart. It might seem like a world apart from the athletics track, but for me, the Grand National is much more than just a race. It’s a tradition, a family affair, and an extraordinary spectacle that never fails to captivate me year after year, and even though this year’s done and dusted, I’m more than ready to watch the next Grand National and to bet on the Grand National 2026 favourites.

My parents, avid fans of the sport, would gather around the TV with my siblings and me, eagerly awaiting every twist and turn of the race. This familial connection was the root of my love for the sport and has remained a strong tradition in our household.

These animals are elite athletes in their own right, trained with incredible discipline and care. Similarly, jockeys exhibit remarkable fitness, skill, and bravery to navigate such a challenging course. This mutual respect between the horse and rider mirrors the athlete-coach relationship I experienced, adding another layer of admiration for the sport.
